Alagi Yorro Jallow

I am not endorsing an individual, whom I barely know. But I am endorsing Mr. Alahji Jah for Mayor of Banjul. There are bigger issues at stake for the Capital City of Banjul and Banjulian patriotism should not be delegitimized for short-term political gains.

There are a few people in our lives that we come across who are truly remarkable people, who are motivating to be around in their actions and their zest for life. Mr. Alahji Jah is one of those people. Alahji Jah is an Independent candidate aspiring to be Mayor for Banjul.

I have known Mr. Alahji Jah personally and professionally for many years as a researcher and a Journalist. I have for several years known of his work as a community organizer for the Greater Banjul Area. In addition, I have for several years followed with great interest on Mr. Jah’s political and social activities in Banjul and in the Gambia diaspora.

I have been in touch and kept abreast of his political and social engagements as well as his professional goals and accomplishments.

Accordingly, I have been particularly impressed by his ability and resourcefulness on environmental and political discourse. I am, therefore, convinced that Mr. Jah has both the intellectual strength and leadership skills to succeed in representing the people of Banjul as Lord Mayor. Let me elaborate:

Mr. Jah combines the rare gifts of a superb intellect, excellent analytical, communication skills that set him apart from most aspiring to contest for the Mayoral election in Banjul.

These qualities combined make him, in my view, one of the most erudite and engaging and thought-provoking political and social activist I have ever met. Mr. Jah’s views are thoughtful, always clearly and logically articulated and in the end, generate refreshing debate and discussion.

Consequently, I have benefited immensely as a researcher from his works and insights about Banjul politics, generally. Mr. Jah’s penchant for accuracy and balance have earned him much deserved respect from his peers, friends and critics alike because of his leadership and clarity of vision. What I find particularly impressive about him is the strong direction and leadership he plans for the city of Banjul, transforming it from a marginal to one of the premier City in the sub-region.

Over these past months, the public and I have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the perspectives and agendas of the various candidates in the upcoming Local government elections for Mayor of Banjul. His honest, pragmatic, and hopeful insight into his community’s problems and needs, and his willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to the public’s questions and concerns, sets him far apart from the other candidates’ expected techniques and talk, and so I am writing today to express my support for his campaign and my intention both to canvass vote for him in the upcoming elections and to spread word to others of the value of his policies and abilities.

Since Mr Jah has continued to stand for the rights and dignity of Banjulian. He has consistently maintained his convictions and loyalty to the struggle for freedom and the attainment of the deepest aspirations of the people of Banjul.

I call on all Banjulian to vote for Mr. Alahji Jah. I anticipate that if elected Mr. Jah would bring to the City Council strong leadership qualities and more. He is an able communicator, independent and original thinker who works well with others.

Alahji Jah, undoubtedly, will also bring with him a rich and varied background that would enhance the City Council offerings immensely. And, finally, Alahji Jah is a genuinely nice person of high moral standing, with a sense of humor, who has my highest endorsement for Mayor of Banjul.
