(JollofNews) – Following last week’s torrential rain that  destroyed homes, properties and left nearly a thousand people homeless, the natives of Jarra living in the United Kingdom and United States have made a D200,000 cash donation to fload victims in Jarra West and Jarra Central constituencies.

Presenting the donation on behalf of the UK Jarra Association and the Bureng Association USA, Ansumana Kinteh, project co-ordinator, UK Jarra Gambia, reiterated the commitment of the sons and daughters of Jarra residing in the UK and USA to helping their communities in Jarra.

He said shortly after they heard reports of the flooding, the Jarrankas in the UK dipped their hands in their pockets and raised D120, 000 while those in the US raised D80, 000 to support the victims.

Mr Kinteh added that both the UK Jarra Association and the Bureng Association USA, have over the years supported communities in Jarra  and have  invested thousands of dollars in education, health care and other areas of community needs.

He reassured the people of Jarra that the UK Jarra Association and the Bureng Association USA will continued  to support the development of Jarra and the wellbeing of all Jarrankas.

The chief of Jarra West, Alhagie Yahya Jarjusey, expressed gratitude to the UK Jarra Association and the people of Bureng living in the USA for the donation, which he described as timely.

The governor of Lower River Region, Fanta Bojang Samateh-Manneh also thanked the UK Jarra Association and the Bureng Association USA for the donation and declared her pride in the good work of Jarrankas living in the diaspora.

She recalled that both Associations have each donated D100, 000 to the flood victims in Bureng  less than a month ago. She added that the associations have in this month also provided various support worth half a million Dalasis to communities in Jarra.
