Gambia Television’s Boss Fired, Detained

(JollofNews) – The managing director of the Gambia’s state-owned Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) is reported to have been sacked and taken into custody by agents of the National Intelligence Agency.

Momodou Sabally 42, was sacked and arrested this morning for undisclosed reasons.

The father of four was appointed to the post in February this year. He previously managed the pro-government Daily Observer newspaper and also served as Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service and Minister for Presidential Affairs.

Mr Sabally is no stranger to the NIA headquarters in Banjul. In 2014, he detained there from 7th July to 14th October after he was arrested and charged with economic crime, abuse of office, negligence and giving false information to President Yahya Jammeh.

The charges were later dropped before he was handpicked to manage the Daily Observer.
