WAJA unveils ‘Excellence Awards’ for Investigative Journalism

Journalists in West African stand the chance of winning the region’s top reporting price.
The West Africa Journalists Association’s (WAJA) Excellence Awards 2010 was launched Monday August 30th, through WAJA’s Capacity Building Project based in the Malian capital, Bamako.WAJA
The theme of the competition, “Investigative Journalism and Ethics”, seeks to promote ethical journalism, quality research, investigations; and to recognize and promote talent in journalism in the WAJA/ECOWAS Space, a statement by WAJA says.
What is the 3rd Edition of the Competition is open to practicing journalists in the 15 ECOWAS Member states and Mauritania in the fields of Print, Radio and Television.
In addition to a monetary prize, winners also stand the chance of taking part in at least one training session on Investigative Journalism and Ethics.
Prospective participants most however meeting certain conditions for eligibility: contestants must be practicing journalists, resident in one of the 16 WAJA member countries. They most also be working regularly for a press agency or media institution.
Works presented must have been broadcast on a television or radio station or published in a newspaper, magazine or wire of a news agency between May 30, 2009 and May 30, 2010. Entries, which most be sent in latest October 30, 2010, most also be either in French, English or Portuguese.
