Wade advocates transformation of ECOWAS into confederation
Saturday, 02 April 2011 23:07
PANA - The Senegalese President, Abdoulaye Wade, announced Thursday at the Council of Ministers meeting that
he had submitted to his peers of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) proposals to transform the regional organisation into a confederation. Wade submitted the proposals during the last ECOWAS summit, held 23 and 24 March in Abuja, Nigeria. According to the communiqué of the Senegalese government, Wade denounced the low capacity of the budget of the organisation despite the important resources put at its disposal. The Senegalese President expressed the belief 'this is due to the deficiency of the ECOWAS Commission in the conception and execution of development projects'.
He underscored the failure in the management of the organisation, notably concerning human resources, the communiqué indicated.
