Tribute to Gambian Historian Dawda Faal
Monday, 18 April 2011 16:43
Editor,May I take this opportunity to pay tribute to a gentle, quiet, dignified Gambian, Muslim High School’s History teacher Dawda Faal who recently passed away.
I came across his textbook, A History of The Gambia, at Timbooktoo Bookshop opposite the Point Newspaper offices in 2007. Being a trained history teacher myself I was impressed and got my staff at
the Daily Observer to contact him and invite him to my office for a meeting. The result was that for the next six months or so the Daily Observer serialised the whole textbook chapter by chapter each week and put it on the internet for Diaspora Gambians to enjoy.I understand from those whom Dawda Faal taught that he was a dedicated and fondly remembered teacher. I certainly have cherished memories of the half-dozen or so meetings we had at the Daily Observer when he came to discuss editorial points of his book’s weekly serialisation.
He was a good modest Gambian and I wish his family well in their time of sorrow. The comfort is that he is the kind of man who would get an express ticket to God’s heavenly palace. May his sould rest in perfect peace.
Dida Jallow-Halake,
London, UK.

It is reassureing to know someone like MK Jallow is keeping good records.
I do not like these "African" truth and reconciliation movements.
Those responsible should made accountable.
Didn't he play centre half for Brazil?
I find I am more inclined towards the APRC and President Jammeh and what they have achieved...than towards those of the opposite kind.
Democracy...is an accomodation not a solution.

My interest was objective and towards the three freedoms of speech, expression and assembly.
You don't need democracy to embrace these;
The African is more inclined towards its deposition and heritage of Kings and autonomous rulers...than the western parliamentry citadel.
Yayah Jammeh...is true to his convictions. He stands for Africa and African's
I think the rest of you are confused into beliveing that "Western" is best.
Who is the least betrayed?
I betray no man...least of all myself.
