Spanish sponsor of Gamcotrap distances itself from arrest of activists
Sunday, 17 October 2010 00:18
The Madrid based organization behind the funds allegedly embezzled by the detained top brass of Gamcotrap have dissociated itself from their arrest and continued detention.
The Director of Yolocamba Solidarity, Begoña Ballesteros Sánchez, said her organization never made any complain to warrant the investigation
of the two female activists. She was reacting to an earlier publication by Jollof News which cited sources as saying that she had sought a meeting with Gambian leader, President Yahya Jammeh, where she forward a complaint and requested investigation over missing funds donated to Gamcotrap by her Spain based organization.Dr Isatou Touray, Executive Director of the Banjul based Gamcotrap, and her programme coordinator Amy Bojang Sisooho, were detained last week by the Gambian authorities who accused them of theft. They were remanded pending investigation, after their bail application was denied.
“As for the arrest of Dr. Isatou Touray and Amy Bojang Sisooho, Yolocamba made no complaint, authorities simply wanted to be informed of the cooperative activities being undertaken and the alleged misappropriation of funds to create alternative employment for women who abandoned the practice of female genital mutilation,” said Begoña Ballesteros Sánchez in a communication sent to Jollof News.
She disclosed that the Gambian government instituted a formal investigation on its own, and as a result it came up with its own evidence of crime. But, she added, she hopes everything will become clear in the process already begun. “Yolocamba Solidarity is not involved,” she stressed.
Mrs Sánchez also said that Solidarity Yolocamba had informed the Gambian authorities that for them the most important thing is that international cooperation funds must be for the beneficiaries, the people who live in communities where projects are implemented.
She said she hoped that “the resolution of the Gambian authorities is consistent with justice and respect for human rights.”

The lies, deceit & fabrications, which is the HALLMARK of yaya jammeh continues to be repulsed & averted repeatedly as night turns to day for the doomed Kanilai-butcher. The most pathetic aspect of all’s he seem to have succeeded involving some ‘sacred’ unscrupulous individuals in some of the imams; supposed to be cleaner as the nook & crane for dispensation of justice on judicious matters of society. Islam taught that “the worst of hypocrites are those who knew but pretend/chose to deviate for travesty/other.” I wonder if those doing such are fit to lead in prayers & worth the societal status accorded to them at all; if they can chose to take religion hostage & shamelessly demonstrate evil intensions overtly. Why hasn't any of them ever mentioned/preached when he rounded up some defenceless of the society in his MAD-witch-cleasing???
