Sillahbah Samateh’s Sister arraigned

State prosecutors in Gambia have dragged to court the sister of a star witness in a key trial involving a former police chief, Ensa Badjie, for aiding prisoner escape.
Sister to alleged drug dealer, Sillahbah Samateh, who was testifying against former Police Chief Ensa Badjie, appeared at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, Tuesday 10 August, charged for aiding her brother’s escape from state custody.Banjul_Magistrates_Court
Once highly motivated by a well noted presidential praise, ex-IGP Badjie faces a number of counts of charges, alongside two other senior security officers detained since last March. Sillahbah Samateh who allegedly worked with Badjie on drug related matters, was the star witness for the prosecution until he reportedly jumped bail earlier this year.
The charge sheet reads that “Jankey Samateh, sometime in the year 2010 at Banjul and other places in the Gambia within the jurisdiction of this honorable court aided Sillahbah Samateh to escape from lawful custody by taking him on bail from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and facilitated his escape to Holland and thereby committed an offense.”
When this was read to her, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against her. But prior to this, the hearing was punctuated by a heated battle of procedure between the prosecution and the defense, respectively represented by the Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Nigerian M. Abdullahi and Lawyer Lamin Camara.
During the hearing, the defense suffered a severe blow after its application for bail was denied by Magistrate Hilary Abeke who argued that there is a bail application pending at the High Court.
The accused person, who has been in detention for almost 55 days, is being remanded at Mile Two.

Gambians,

Wake up and smell the coffee. This Sillaba dude didn't just escape by accident. Yaya Jammeh knows having this guy around will expose him. Lets thank God he didn't harm him.

Why don't you ask why the dude's cousins that are just helpers are not bailable and are still in the NIA detention nd h the star witness got bailed and flee with his entire family?

Prosecuting the sister is all smoke screen and nothing else.

No wonder this issue now turns to a witch hunt/fishing expedition. Ex-IG Badjie was praised by yaya to be the ‘best’ because he peddles drug for him to beef up his income & NOT the bogus ineffective services Ensa rendered as IG. Ensa WILL still be IG today had he not divulged that he sold cocaine for yaya jammeh. Ensa never had factories to manufacture cocaine & couldn’t import without detection from yaya. How did the drugs got to Ensa & Sillahba in first place? More so, how did the $1 billion cocaine shipment got through to Gambia without detection at point of entry if yaya wasn’t involved??? All recall the cocaine container addressed to yaya’s ministry intercepted at port of Nouakchott, Mauritania, & yaya’s business counterpart, Amadou Samba’s purported link with the $billion cocaine shipment? The rest is yours to draw own conclusions...

Why should any sister be punished for her brother's alleged crimes?I can understand maybe if she forfeits her bond money but to be detained for nearly two months without charge and now these flimsy charges ....... i don't know man....this whole drugs scandal smells very fishy and i have a feeling that the big fish himself is doing everything possible to avoid the net
