Senegalese soldier dies in Casamance clashes

A Senegalese soldier died last Sunday in the village of Kaguit, located about ten km
from Ziguinchor, when loyalist troops clashed with elements of the MFDC rebels.The incident occurred at about 4pm, according to local media reports, after rebels attacked a taxi traveling on a highway. Passengers were reportedly stripped off all their possessions by the rebels.
Informed about the situation, the Senegalese army raided the village to restore order. And a battle ensued, resulting in the injury of the Senegalese soldier who later succumbed to his wounds at the regional hospital in Ziguinchor.
