Senegal riots over electricity cuts

riotRiot broke out in the city of Mbour, about 80 kilometers from the Senegalese capital Dakar, last Wednesday, when protesters took to the streets denouncing frequent power cuts.
The protesters settled for the local branch of the national water and electricity company, Senelec, where they destroyed materials belonging toriot the company in demonstration of their anger. Outnumbered by the rioters, the few police present at the scene failed to prevent the damages.
Power cuts have become a chronic problem in Senegal, with the authorities hardly able to give any plausible explanation.
However, the local media Thursday reported that officials of Senelec blamed “bad weather” for the current spate of outages.
Prior to the commencement of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Senelec raised hopes among electricity consumers in Senegal with the announcement of a CFA 21 billion investment in the energy sector as a means of ensuring convenience throughout the period of the tournament. But it never worked.
A senior workers union member, Lamine Diarra, told Music superstar Youssou Ndour’s RFM radio that the blackouts were in fact related to bad quality of fuel used in the machines. He accused the authorities of spending money on exceptionally poor quality of fuel that is dangerous for the engines of the machines.
Meanwhile, the so-called Collective of Imams in Dakar has issued a warning, according to Sen24heures.com, threatening a repeat of boycott of payment of electricity bills if the situation continued.

Truth's, Gambians & the international community in the know, knows. The masses can remember yaya's oil lift saga inquiry was blocked by APRC MPs under Baba Jobe as then majority leader; the same year when a cross party delegation visited Taiwan only for Kemeseng among the visitors to realise in fact, the tractors yaya bragged on GRTS to have donated to farmers were grants to government. On return when Kemeseng clarified this to the independent media, he was accused of being the Mole informing the Press about House secrets? The journalists can rectify if this hasn't happen. Now that the readership will know who are the receptors for selfishness/ulterior motives in our struggle in nation building.

The main reason why most people on this forum do not bother to comment is because they get turned off by idiots like JIM with their tedious and stupid arguments in defense of what is clearly a brutal and callous regime in Banjul.

Jim, you r a disgrace to not only Gambia but the rest of Africa... It is poeple like you who make the freedom we are fighting for a predicament in itslef. Instead of defending the numerosu accusations levled against the govt you claim to support, you engage in condemning people for bringing up clear point.
You must know that you are in fact making the arguements of the opponents more reasonable.

Quoting Kafuta:
Lamin, when you battle against a brut like Yahya Jammeh you have to be away or he will neutralising you. Cant you see that the man kills his opponents? or are the fate of Dayda Hydara and Ousman Sillah not enough to prove this. Dont tell me that Dayda killed himself or Ousman Sillah shot himself. So those of us who you think are away simply because we do not disclose our identity aren't actually blowing winds. If the likes of Thabo Mbekhi didnt go into exile and fight back appathied might not have been defeated... hiding while fighting is not cowardice, it is a war strategy...

You see Lamin, here comes my pal Kafuta again with the same yadi.. yadi.. yadi..
Tell me what is new. Belief me, I have been on this for way too long now and it is tiredsome to have to argue against the same bla, bla, bla, bla, and not moving an inch. It's worthless.

Jim
My brother I dont think these people are out for a fruitful and concensus debate, were we can sometimes arrive to a common agreement? We can agree or disagree but what I find amazing is were some of these people got the information. The British government is now aware that these people are asylum seekers who have never been critics in the country till when they left. What is making them mad is I know they following up the just started tour of the president seeing thousands out to welcome the president in the absent of we writing in favour of the government.I think the government has hired senegalese to come to the welcome ceremonies that make it huge? Gambians still need Jammeh and what I always ask myself is how a blowing wind can fight for freedom?

Quote: “The APRC MPs were used to block an inquiry into the crude oil contract concession Nigeria gave to yaya for Gambia but personalised”. My brother are you really serious in this debate? Can you remember all the commissions set by the AFRC in their early days? Are you are aware that the Crude oil saga contract, that the key beneficiaries was the British government that blocked all the investigation? When all commissions were set the British government appreciated them except the Oil crude saga that started to bring in more divisions between the Jammeh government and the British government. My brother go back to the old days of all commission of inquires when everything was read in both languages especial the famous “Fansu Jammano”. You are just like the Tornado that can only break the weak and powerless but not a solid government like the Jammeh government. My brother gets to all the past commissions of inquiries and come up with something meaningful.
