Secret agreement with Gambia overrides UN arms export sanctions - Nigeria's Iran envoy
Wednesday, 09 February 2011 21:13
AP - Iran says that the Gambia-bound arms shipment seized at Nigeria's busiest port three months ago did not breach
sanctions imposed by the United Nations.Iranian ambassador Hussein Abdullahi said Wednesday that the shipment "was not conflicting with the UN sanctions," because Iran and Gambia had signed a secret agreement two years before the U.N.'s 2010 ban on Iranian arms exports.
The U.N., however, banned exports in a 2007 resolution and tightened sanctions in 2010.
Abdullahi said that the military-grade arms seized on Oct. 26 by Nigerian port authorities were in transit to Gambia.
He said it was the third of four shipments and that two shipments had successfully taken the same route.
Nigeria has charged an Iranian in court and had U.N. experts examine the cargo.

The discovery of arms in Nigeria, has been confirmed to originate from Iran.
In possible breach of this sanction.
The Iranian Ambasador...is making this admission along with other allegations that they were supplying arms to Gambia on two previous occaisions.
They also allege that The Gambia expelled them, because of the "breaking" of this secret deal between Iran and Gambia to Nigeria.
They previously alleged that The Gambia expelled them because of US pressure to do so.
They further made regretable remarks regarding the "Moral Charecter" of Mr Jammeh and threatened Jammeh would come to regret his decision.
Meanwhile Nigeria have reported Iran, to UN and Senegal, The Gambia.
The wise would await the outcome of the Nigerian/UN investigation.
'Fool' is now a more derogatory insult than it was when this proverb was coined, in the early 18th century. At that time a fool wasn't a simpleton, lacking in intelligence, simply someone who had behaved foolishly. For Yahya Jammeh , I will just add that, he is no fool but a wicked African in bringing such warfare weapons in West Africa where I feel sick even to write here what these people went through. I will not call a fool but a wicked being who rush in where Satan tread..
It is the ultimate path of being 100 per cent inhumane to import and sell weapons in such conflicts much more your own people.
