Sanna Nyassi scores finally-as Sounders past TFC, 3-2
Sunday, 03 October 2010 21:22
Nyassi pounded home a left-footed shot from about 17 yards out. The ball sat up perfectly for Nyassi who one-touched it after a Toronto player deflected a Steve Zakuani pass.

Nyassi's goal gave the Sounders a 3-1 lead, and considering their control of play throughout the match, it seemed to be unnecessary insurance. But Chad Barrett pulled one back for the cornered visitors at 88'. TFC never really threatened again, though.
Against the run of play, TFC actually took the lead at 16' when Maicon Santos won a ball near midfield and then sent Dwayne De Rosario a perfect throughball. De Rosario got behind the defense and put a beautiful finish inside the near post to take the early 1-0 lead. In the process of scoring, De Rosario appeared to clip a sliding Jeff Parke, who dislocated his finger on the play.
After a several-minute stoppage of play so that trainers could attend to Parke -- who finished the game -- Steve Zakuani was set free on a perfectly placed and timed throughball from Osvaldo Alonso. Zakuani made one touch to get around TFC goalkeeper Stefan Frei and easily slotted home his ninth goal of the season.
Just five minutes later, Blaise Nkufo was left unmarked on a Nathan Sturgis free kick and headed home his fifth goal in three matches.
The Sounders really dominated play in this match, outshooting TFC 17-7 (7-2 on goal) and taking six corners to TFC's two.
More importantly, the win gives the Sounders 42 points which could be enough on their own to qualify for the playoffs. They currently sit nine points ahead of Kansas City, who plays later today at New York and needs a win in the worst way. The Wizards will host the Sounders next week, knowing that anything less than a victory will likely not be enough to keep their postseason hopes alive.
The win also gives the Sounders 12 victories, the same number they had during their inaugural season. This team still has three matches left to play, meaning surpassing last season's total of 47 is still not out of the question. Considering this team was sitting on 15 points through 15 matches, this is an astounding accomplishment.
