President Jammeh under attack by Senegalese human rights group
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:24
President Yahya Jammeh has come under attack by the Dakar based African Assembly for the Defense of Human Rights, known by its acronym as RADDHO.
"Since the accession of Captain Yahya Jammeh to power in 1994, the state of democracy and human rights in the Gambia continues to deteriorate," the organization said in a statement released in Dakar Tuesday, July 20.

This statement by RADDHO is in response to the recent conviction and sentencing to death of eight (8) Gambians, including former chief of Defense Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, Lt. General Lang Tombong Tamba.
Headed by a Senegalese, former university professor Alioune Tine, RADDHO has been at the forefront of condemnation against alleged human rights violations in Senegal’s smaller neighbor.
Its statement on Tuesday described Yahya Jammeh as a "paranoid” leader who sees coups everywhere.
“Since taking office more than two hundred (200) coups have been identified in a country where everything has been clocked and where there is intimidation and terror that spares no political actors (opposition and ruling party),” the statement said.
And it added: "currently, many people are detained without charge or illegally imprisoned after unfair trials. Most of them are victims of torture or other ill-treatment…"
The organization called on President Yahya Jammeh to respect his obligations vis-à-vis the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.
Raising the question of Gambia’s hosting of the regional human rights commission, RADDHO said it is "inappropriate and unacceptable for the country hosting the headquarters of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights to be showing little respect for human rights." It challenged the African Commission to suspend all its sessions since the death penalty is effective in Gambia. RADDHO also appealed to the International community and other African nations to put pressure on President Yahya Jammeh to pardon those sentenced to death “and stops the gross violations of human rights that have become common occurrence in this country".
Amnesty International Dakar protest
Meanwhile, the worldwide protest set for Thursday against Jammeh’s alleged rights violations is also scheduled for Dakar. Amnesty International Dakar office has called on Senegal to join in celebrating the day “which will be marked by protests in several countries in Africa, Europe and America" in support of democrats and defenders of human rights in Gambia “who are faced with the repressive regime of President Yahya Jammeh.”

You guys are unbelievable. I knew you were retarded but I didn't know you were so retarded. You start a game, set the rules for that game, YET, when people play your very game following your own rules, you cry foul when at the loosing end.
I will not stop pointing to your crap as yadi, yadi, yadi, any time it fits the yadi, yadi, yadi description. Got that! Comprendre? Capito? Entender?
Now you are appealing to jollofnews to ban or kick me off! Jollofnews is for freedom of expression, without favour, right? Lets see if your appeal will be listened to.
You want a matured and civilised discourse? Grow up! Stop insulting people (all people, including the President). Until then, your crap will be treated by me as just yadi, yadi, yadi and your abusive language will be reciprocated.
It is good that your online paper is devoted in promoting freedom and peace in The Gambia. I even intended to donate some cash to your appeal for donations.
How there is a person by the NAME JIM who wrote phrase like yadi yadi etc. This person has one intention, which is, to verbally abusive concerned Gambians who want to emphasise their views on your forum. If left unaddressed, this JIM (who wrote yadi yadi) will discourage good people visiting this site much more posting the views on this forum. I appeal to you to look into the postings of this person with the name JIM. He might even be sponsored to do use verbal abuses to discourage visitors to your site (one of the reasons websites use guide for postings). This is my observation and hope you consider my appeal since such an ill-mannered person attitude towards other visitors will not enhance the objective of your good online paper.
