President Jammeh in another arms smuggling saga
Thursday, 17 March 2011 00:57
JollofNews - Even before the dust raised by the recent interception of Iranian weapons get settled, President Yahya
Jammeh has been linked to another illegal arms deal saga. This time it is in the Ivory Coast, which allegation is in fact by no means a new phenomenon.
This latest revelation, however, is contained in a report by the Senegalese daily Kotch, republished by another Senegalese online newspaper Leral.net. It cited reports indicating that the first two shipments allegedly received from Iran by Yahya Jammeh were shared between Ivory Coast renegade former
President Laurent Gbagbo and Senegal’s Southern MFDC rebels."Kotch cited another report by Liberté II which described Jammeh as “an important device in the sending of arms to those in power in Cote d'Ivoire.”
The link between Laurent Gbagbo and Yahya Jammeh born tense relations between Senegal and Gambia between 2004-2006, the paper said. It added that Jammeh, whom it accused of harboring the long held intention of hurting Senegal, facilitated a rapprochement between the separatist leader, Salif Sadio, and Laurent Gbagbo. And it said when Iran was discovered in 2005 by Senegal to have delivered large quantities of weapons to the Gambia, Tehran explained that some of those weapons were intended for policing purposes in Gambia, while the rest had to go to Abidjan.
In 2006, a ship carrying weapons to the MFDC from Abidjan was reportedly intercepted by the Bissau Guinean navy. And in 2009, Delesse Schwisenberg, a special advisor to then President Laurent Gbagbo, reportedly made several trips between Banjul and Abidjan on behalf of Gbagbo.
"The UN may have erred by wrongly accusing Belarus of supplying combat helicopters to Laurent Gbagbo. But the world body did not err on the existence of these weapons,” Frédéric Lafont, a French specialist in weapons of the former Soviet republic, was quoted saying, giving credence to the involvement of elements of Yahya Jammeh in the weapons acquisition by Laurent Gbagbo.
“This revelation will be an opportunity for the Senegalese authorities to open their eyes to the double game played by Yahya Jammeh on the Casamance crisis,” Kotch warned.

For once I cannot..think of an "interesting" or helpful reply that might further the conversation.
I am certain that all are shocked and horrified at world events.
I think what is even more shocking..is the way that governments of all "colours" have reacted.
Sorry just now.
the idea of colonialism is dead and should be buried. britain should get out of the falkland islands... it belongs to Argentina...
down to opressors...
Mike, by the way, we do not care what the British or French do with their arms, but our concern is the security of our region. The slaughter becomes more convenient with the easy availability of weapons and Yaya Jammeh's sudden wealth definitely does have something to do with arms smuggling. Jammeh's former people have openly confessed on the on-line media to escorting weapons to neighboring countries and this guy has become a clear and present danger to the entire sub region.
Did they not supply Mirage fighter planes and exocet missiles to Argentina?
..and were they not used against the legitimate British occupational force...who retook the Falklands Islands?
Did not the British supply the tear gas and rubber bullets to Bahrain?
Have not both the British and Americans supplied advanced weaponry to Suadi Arabia?
Did Not Cameron visit Egypt recently accompanied by arms salesmen?
So in conclusion? is a western manufactured bullet more righteous than an Eastern manufactured bullet?
Who supplied the weapons being used by Gaddafi on his own people?
So much for the United Nations?
You can bet your bottom dollar that the British will find the 20 Billion dollars to buy Nuclear weapons..whilst millions lose there jobs and homes and futures.
I wannabe a Banker !!!
Its a larf.
I am not surprise at all. This man is just lucky to be a president in a very peaceful and layback society.
Yahya Jammeh is predictable and a crook to the core and plays Gambians so well that, the proverb "one spoil potato spoil the whole bag" syndrome has now happened to that country.
