President Jammeh demands explanation from Senegal over communication breakdown

Yahya_Jammeh_protestPresident Yahya Jammeh has conveyed a complaint to the Senegalese government over last Thursday’s communication breakdown in Gambia, according to a local media report in Dakar.
Last Thursday’s strike by telecom workers in neighboring Senegal brought to a total halt the flow of information into and out of Senegal. At theYahya_Jammeh_protest same period, Gambians experienced the same problem, even though Gambian officials would  not openly admit a connection to the situation in Dakar.
It turned out that the effect of the striking Senegalese wasn’t limited to their country; it affected communications in both Gambia and Guinea Conakry.
This latest information confirms the fears of many who remain reluctant to accept the fact that Senegal, apart from its grotesque geographical orientation to its smaller neighbor, remains a crucial strategic partner for Gambia in the development drive of the latter.
Leading Dakar based online newspaper, Bitimrew.net, Tuesday cited ‘reliable source’ within the Gambia Telecommunications Company (Gamtel) as saying that the Gambian telecoms body forwarded a protest note to the directorate of its equivalent Senegalese institution, Sonatel. It said the alleged correspondence from the Gambian side did not only protest against the development, which caused both internet and telephone interruptions in Gambia, but also demanded explanation.
It did not stop there, because President Yahya Jammeh also took up the issue with President Wade, demanding clarification, the paper reported.

JAMMEH 4 LIFE:
I understand your passion in defending Jammeh. I applaud your courage in recognizing your excesses in your critique of the Editors of Jollof News. I agree with you most of the time on Jammeh. But on this issue, i still think the Jolof editors are doing their best. Am glad u have noted it.

I was previllaged to meet Jammeh early in the revolution.

Though i disagree with Jammeh's critics, i nonetheless have a few questions 4 Jammeh. These are questions of principle that i cannot convey to the president with profanity.

All who knew weren’t in doubt of what came out to be in most of cases. One MUST deal clandestinely in deceit if there’s something to hide. But God blows such covers of deceit up through natural calamities/industrial actions through civil actions such as strikes which unfortunately aren’t applicable in Gambia. Thus democracy & maturity in Senegal can help dealt blow to yaya’s false pompous fake pretentions for all to see through. ‘No man’s an island’. Economies & communities are interlinked in symbioses world over. Yaya dances to tune of other leaderships behind the curtains whilst appear heroically-‘mystical’ to his disciples & worshippers.

Jammeh For Life,

Our choice of photo is normally determined by the story line. However, like all other 'independent' Gambian media, we depend entirely on the internet for Jammeh's photos as he doesn't allow any other media other than GRTS or Daily Observer around him.
We take what we get.
The photo here is a good one, it's the resolution we used that kind of made it looks deformed. But no foul game intended.
As regard your charge of irresponsibilit y on our part, I guess you are entitled to your opinion. We are doing all we can to represent fairness in our reportage.
By the way, have you asked yourself how we get hold of 'positive' news on the government, despite the fact that this very same government never give room to any other papers other than those Yahya Jammeh openly endorses?

righteousness always! At first Jollofnews was well praised by contributors for their fairsness in reporting including myself.Today,I will loudly say Jollofnews is not fair and I feel some biasness on them.
Jollofnews! This is sign of irrespondsible journalism and lack of respect to a state president and clearly indicate that you are using journalism to promote your personal interest. The Gambia want journalists and not hating journalists. It is ramadan time and it is time for righteousness and NO PRETENDING.
I chalange the jollofnews editors to explain to the people of the Gambia and commentators WHY DO THEY PRINT THE PHOTO OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA IN SUCH A WAY ON THE INTERNET.
I hope jollofnews will take my comment seriously and respect my right of free expression of opinion and respond to my comment. Ramadan mubarak.

Under an ideal situation, Gambia should have leased everything from telecommunicati on, electricy, gas, transportation, etc FROM sENEGAL. Because we are one n the same people, N we are an island within Senegal. This would have made everything cheap 4 both of us.

But the reality is; that is a farfetch dream. And so Gambia's strategic location makes imports cheap n this makes us a flourishing re-export point. We re-export sugar, rice, condiments to Senegal, Mauritania, Bissau, Conakry, etc.

This lack of co-operation is what makes Gambia to lease extra communication space via satellite, to minimise damage in the event of a Senegalese outage. To my brothers n sisters in senegal, next time your system is grounded, cross into Gambia n make a call to us outside!!!
THANKS KEMO CHAM 4 THE REPORT:
