Gambia's Public Sector To Have Four-Day Working Week

Yahya Jammeh (Reuters) – Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has decreed a four-day working week for public officials, making Friday a day of rest to allow residents in the small West African state more time for prayer and agriculture.

Jammeh said in statement the decision was made in light of demand from the general public. The shorter working week will take effect from February 1.

The new public sector working times in Gambia, a sliver of land stretching inland from the West African coast along the river Gambia, will be Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"This new arrangement will allow Gambians to devote more time to prayers, social activities and agriculture - going back to the land to grow what we eat and eat what we grow for a healthy and wealthy nation," the presidential statement said.

Though it has a secular state, Gambia's population is overwhelmingly Muslim. Jammeh seized power in the popular European tourist destination in a bloodless military coup in 1994.

He has since been accused by activists of human rights abuses during his rule. In August, his government drew international condemnation for executing nine death-row inmates by firing squad, prompting it to suspend 38 other planned executions.

The government warned, however, that the executions would go ahead if the crime rate increases.

One of Africa's more controversial rulers, Jammeh said in 2007 he had found a remedy of boiled herbs to cure AIDS, stirring anger among Western medical experts who claimed he was giving false hope to the sick.

..such atrocities..lead..to..a new understanding based upon human rights.

..

Ok, am thinking..what do u mean..cus the world always knew killing 15000 a day was bad. But bad men, i keep referring to dont care..
Terrorist would kill 3000 people a day, cus they dont care..
Dictators dont mind killing n kidnapping their citizens daily, cus they dont care

This is where i say; give me Blair..give me Bush..we need to go after the bad guys
Remember we did that 4 u in the 40s..
...and by your own words, it would be unthinkable 4 us not to confront hitler

As you previously stated here on Jollof News...

When you greeted the soldiers of the July 22nd Coup at Westfield Junction...and asked for uniforms and guns...

Who were you wanting to kill ?

Lol...I love revolutions! Good revolutionaries dont need guns primarily to kill, but to ensure an immaculate transition of power, of which july 94 could be catagorised..

It was seemless, effortless, bloodless, tearless, painless, blah, blah blah..A triumph of dignity over anarchy

I wanted a gun n uniform cus an overwhelming force is a pacifying force..meaning, our numbers alone is enough to sustain tranquility..n not blood.

I hope u can now embrace many good armed people around u!!!

I am even having a headache trying to figure out where to begin and i can't, and i have decided to save brain for much more intuitive issues, that are worth debating on. This is why i denounce my Gambian citizenship. I try to look for complementary phases in the so call progress in Gambia, but i can't seem to grasp on one issues that i could honestly say is making a deference in the lives of the people. I brain feels numb, my sight is opaque and i feel empty. I use response to such measures with an innate reaction by saying F**K! but now i just feel numb and can't even decipher, understand,............ Fuck this is stupid, What the Fuck is going on in the Gambia. This is worst than being depress.

The above rant is just me expressing the lacking of a intuitive sense of reasoning to any issues. As a matter of fact i do not mind Jammeh being a dictator - if only he was a clever one and not a stupid dumb-ass motherfucking. This guy is beyond belief.

PaPierre

This well known "protest song"

Is akin to the old question of what came first..the chicken or the egg?

For sure the allies stood against Hitler.

For not to do so would have been unthinkable.

But if Hitler had no soldiers...willing to kill...then he would probably have been declared insane...and committed to a lunatic asylum.

Even Hitler faced some 14 coup attempts from within.

The Nazi death camp at Treblinka...was killing 15,000 men women and children a day.

Near the end of the war...the Nazi's tried to destroy all traces of the camp to conceal such madness.

It is such atrocities that lead the world to reach a new understanding based upon human rights.

The right to life..is the most basic foundation of its principals.

Man sorry to say but you sometimes think evil...
you cannot off a fire with a fire but with water.

I have lived in this world 4 a while...still not sure what evil means...but am pretty sure if u kill, u try to kill just to promote ideology, u are probably evil..

I have not done either..My hands are clean..than i know
