Gambia’s Jammeh Appears At Stage-Managed Anti-EU Demo

Yahya Jammeh(JollofNews) – The much talked about stage-managed protest went ahead in Banjul last Friday, and President Yahya Jammeh was at hand to receive a declaration said to be denouncing the European Union for daring to interfere in the internal affairs of Gambia.

Hundreds of people, transported by the regime from across the country, marched from the Arch 22 to the gate of State House, where they presented the declaration.

“The people of The Gambia acting in solidarity with you, Your Excellency, hereby show our grievances and total disagreement with the European Union’s unwarranted and pre-empty strive through this popular demonstration,” the man at the head of the protests, Saihou Sanyang, permanent secretary No.1 at the Ministry of Regional Administration, Lands and Traditional Rulers, said as he handed over the document to President Jammeh.

Gambians are not normally allowed to embark on demonstrations, not even when such protests do not directly relate to matters of the government.

Recently, two Gambian journalists were detained and charged for daring to apply for permit to demonstrate against the infamous execution of death row inmates by the government.Yahya JammehYahya Jammeh

A senior opposition leader was earlier jailed for holding a banned political rally.

Those actions and a number of others have culminated in the recent EU demand for political dialogue with the regime.

The EU issued a 17-point proposal in line with the Cotonou Agreement reached between it and APC countries, which the Gambia is part of. They include review of the death penalty and halting of persecution of the press.

An angry Yahya Jammeh went berserk, accusing the EU of seeking to destabilize his country.

On Friday Jammeh reiterated those words of his.

“I don’t think I need to tell anybody whether Asian, European, Latin American or African or whatever you are, who I am and what I stand for. I am Yahya AJJ Jammeh born in 1965 in Kanilai, a few months after independence. That tells everybody that I didn’t want to be born under colonialism and I want to also tell you, the same Yahya AJJ Jammeh that risked his life as a Lieutenant in 1994 to liberate this country is the same Yahya Jammeh who is here to die for Africa and for The Gambia,” he said.

And he added: “The reason why we attached that nonsense [the 17 points political dialogue] from the EU is for every one of you to scrutinise and see what they are proposing. One, they didn’t mention anything about education, health and agriculture and all that they are talking about is the freedom of criminals.”

Organisers of the stage-managed demo, after holding a brief meeting with Jammeh following the protest march, headed for the National Assembly (parliament) where they handed over the same document to the waiting parliamentarians.

They said they wanted the lawmakers to take up the matter with the EU parliament.

Jammeh, if u are smart, don't encourage demonstration...just a brotherly advise

Quoting papierre:
Remember the days when young n popular Jammeh came to power in 94,.

European powers condemn the coup against the wishes of the masses like myself...sanctions followed immediately.

Jammeh n Gambians ignored the sanctions then, without ever taking to the streets to protest.

The lesson was, while Jammeh was popular, no one wanted to sweat for him protesting against the western sanctions.

Today, a less popular Jammeh is able to amass huge crowds to protest against the west..lol

When Jammeh wants us to demonstrate to show the world that we love him, that is when u start the countdown to his downfall.

Cus, truth be TOLD, we do not love Jammeh today anymore than we did some 20 years ago.

This would appear to be a grave error of judgement.

Those who were not aware of the reasonable/negotiable 17 point plan for discussion under article 8...are now informed by H.E.

I mean there is no mileage to be gained by such theatrics.

The EU..are the givers.

They have taken nothing, do not intend to take anything and have never asked for anything..except for Gambia to abide by its previous comitments.

70 million Euro's delivered over 5 years

put into development projects...that create wealth, employme nt and taxation..could reap a 10 fold bounty through targeted projects.

Surely the Gambia does not expect the EU to manage the cash as well.?

Now that would be an incursion upon the freewill of Gambian " home grown" enterprise.

Chicken's lay eggs.

...cont from below...

the two Bubacarr journalist got arrested for going to pick an application for a rightfully permitted demonstration & still being pursued & harassed-in-absentia with relatives being arrested.....the lawyers denied to demonstrate, whilst persecuting along some of them....yaya can now coerce the enslaved-civil service embedded with his green-snakes boys & girls & mercenaries to demonstrate for who; if not for his selfish interest & contribute to decadence of Gambia.....??? The whole world now realised yaya stands for self-aggrandisement in lies & falsehood; with murderous instinct to whomever wants to say the truth; “a drowning man will clinch to a straw” but for how long; we shall see...........in the end.

Sure; the EU fixed dated demands rudely awakened this kanilai-numskull into realising the whole world were following & are now aware of your sacrifices of human beings for deity-idol worship & self perpetuation which has shaken you to your bones. If the Murdered-April-students had no constitutional rights to demonstrate for opinion & solidarity with their fellow murdered & raped colleagues.....,

You have no friend, you are isolated and you are imprisoned in the Gambia, so you have not choice but to die IN the Gambia and For the Gambia(the land & the Wealth) but not FOR THE GAMIBIANS,not for the security of our lifes and properties. This Demo is only one of the symtoms of your downfall and is also exposing your cowardness."He who has no vision of eternity will never get a true hold of time."

"He who has imagination without learning has wings without feet".

"He who has published an injurious book sins in his very grave, corrupts others while he is rotting himself."
Dictator jammeh and his bandits have rotten themselves.
