Police: Husband Found Ex-pat Wife Hanged

Simone_JabakhanjiPolice in Gambia today confirmed they are investigating the death of Lancashire ex-pat Simone Jabakhanji.
Mrs Jabakhanji, 28, who moved to Gambia from Leyland in 2009, was found dead at her home in the capital city Banjul, last Saturday.
Her husband Mohammed Jabakhanji, 29, told police he returned to the couple’s home, in the Pipeline district of the city, and found her hanging from a door.
He told officers he summoned the help of the house’s caretaker to take her to hospital, where Mrs Jabakhanji, whose maiden name is Lally, was later Simone_Jabakhanjipronounced dead.
Police today confirmed to the Evening Post they are investigating the cause and circumstances of her death.
Mr Jabakhanji, a businessman in the city, is assisting with enquiries, police said.
Gambia Police Assistant Superintendent Yerro Mballow, the police’s public relations officer, said: “The husband was out.
“On his return he found out his wife was hanged around the door.
“Then he called the caretaker and they escorted the wife to hospital.”
Asst Supt Mballow said the police were called in after she was brought into the hospital.
A police investigation was ongoing today.
Supt Mballow confirmed a post mortem examination has taken place and the results are due to be returned next week.
He said: “When she was admitted to the hospital, that was the time the police were called.
“It is a normal investigation to find out the cause and come up with a conclusion.”
Mrs Jabakhanji used to live at The Pines, in Leyland, and attended Wellfield Business and Enterprise College in Yewlands Avenue.
Early in 2009 she moved to Gambia and on Valentine’s Day 2010 she married Mohammed Jabakhanji and enjoyed a celebration on the beach.
Asst Supt Mballow said he expected her body to be repatriated to Britain imminently.
He added: “That is something for her family, it is up to the family to repatriate her any time they want to.”
Social network sites have been flooded with loving tributes and memories since her death a week ago.
Maria Lally who is Mrs Jabakhanji’s cousin, told the Evening Post: “Simone was beautiful inside and out and I’m completely devastated to hear she has been snatched away from our family.”

Ive been friends with Simone for 19 years and she was such a happy and bubbly character, you couldnt be in her company without laughing or smiling. She was such a beautiful person both inside and out and she had a heart of gold. She would do anything to help anyone and was always putting other people first. My life is better because she was in it and the World will now be a much sadder place without her in it. I hope the answer to this comes quickly because we've all lost someone who has played such a special part in our lives and we all need to know why she has been snatched from us at such a young age.

I thought the police would have been called before anyone touched the body if she was found in such state no matter what the husband was thinking at the time.
Who could they sell their story to now that the wife had already been taken to hospital before thwe police were even called?

This tragedy has hit the people of Leyland{A small Lancashire Town}very hard.

Having worked in Leyland for 3 years..I know the area and the people very well. They are a mainly warm hearted, conside rate and professional people.

Though words can never compensate such a sharp loss of a beautiful English Rose.

I would nevertheless...wish to extend my sincere and heartfelt condolancies to the family and the people of Leyland.

No doubt the family will urge the British High Commission to engage the British Metropolitan Police and there forensic specialists..to work closley with Supt. Mballow, to piece together the events leading upto this terrible and most tragic catastrophe.

My prayers and thoughts are with her young husband...at this time.

We are shocked and greatly saddened.
