Parliament lambasts Sports Ministry

sos-sheriff-gomez-sSport Minster Sherriff Gomez and his staff’s handling of the GNOC crises have been strongly criticized by senior parliamentarians who summoned them Monday to protest over their audacity to challenge the law makers’ verdict on the crises.
A parliamentary committee set up to arbitrate between two GNOC  warring factions over the electoral list, recently announced it has ended the impasse with a consensus among the two sides and that elections would be held in February.
But a statement allegedly issued by the Ministry expressing opposition to the parliamentary stand was thereafter sent to the press, incurring the wrath of the law makers.
According to the Gambian Pointsports, the National Assembly members told the minister and his staff their attitude amounts to contempt of the Assembly and urged them to retract their statements challenging the position on the GNOC matters.
No mention has been made on the paper as to what the minister and his staff’s respond might be or whether they have offered any explanations on their stand.

It is time for Minister Gomez to go. His brief stint at the Sports Ministry has brought more failures than successes. Previous occupants of this post did far better than him. MOREOVER, he has just made history as the first SOS to be reprimanded by the NAMS. The sport minister should be concerned with the delapidated conditions of the only track field in the Gambia that made it impossible for our country to host any major athelitic competition. If we want to excell in sports we must build the necessary infrastructure at world standards. Rather than spending wasteful time trying to defend Bax TOURAY, he should have been sekfkessky working for all Gambians. It is time for Minister Gomez to call it a quit.

A typical example of how the executive views the legislature.

If the legislature is dominated by 'yes sir' NAMS,how could the executive respect its decisions?

Rather that play its role as the people's watchdog,( National Assembly ) it is a mere talkshop and a complete waste of tax payers' money.
