Over $1bn worth of cocaine seized in Gambia

CocaineBy Kemo Cham
Scary revelations from Banjul indicate that a joint operation between Gambian police and UK investigators have resulted in the discovery of a huge cocaine smuggling ring in Gambia.
Reports say at least two tonnes of the drug worth over $1bn was seized just outside Banjul. It was headed for Europe.
Accordingly, a number of suspected traffickers, including foreigners, have also been arrested and are under custody.
The investigators also seized large quantities of cash and arms, the report added.Cocaine
A BBC report says that the Gambian authorities made the first arrests before calling in British agents to gather forensic evidence.
Reports say agents from the UK's Serious Organized Crime Agency helped in Tuesday’s discovery of what has been described as highly concentrated cocaine. The drug was said to have been hidden behind a false wall in a warehouse basement an hour's drive from Banjul. The investigators are also said to be in possession of numerous revealing computer records.
The BBC quoted one investigator closely involved with the case as saying: "We're excited about this one - we've got all the elements here."
Analysts say this development confirms a switch in operation by the traffickers who abandoned the near failed state of Guinea Bissau after international attention was focused there, recently. Poverty and weak security and judicial system in the region have since been blamed for the problem, which is not making any sign of abating.
Already in Gambia, senior security officers close to President Yahya Jammeh, including his most ever “trusted” police chief, are facing dozens of drug related charges, and the name of the Gambian leader himself have already been linked to some of these cases.
And also, in a very popular treason trial, involving the country’s immediate former head of the army, the government is using notorious drug dealers once involved in the Guinea Bissau drug ring as witnesses against alleged coupists, as part of some blurred plea-bargain agreements.

FULBEH: Don't waste my time, do you think i care about A.Denton? I did not take illegal money from him. He has collected D45,000.00 and more on a monthly basis from Errand Boy Sanneh. You have a problem with me mentioning his name, i don't. My advice is warm your uncles to stop stealing so i don't have to mention their names. Did you see me mention Halifa Sallah's name? He has not stolen anything. So just stop the nonsense!!!!

If you say Jammeh is not clean why can't i say the same about your uncle, (A.Denton)

FULBEH: I don't mean to be crude here, but if you can tell me who you are, i will dig some dirt about you in Gambia.

In short, don't challenge my central premises that most Gaambians would take a big pay out and turn a blind eye to drugs entering Gambia. I have travelled around Gambia and i know how hard it is to get anything done unless you bribe someone. If you don't have a short memory, you should be able to recall the illegal cash supply line from Late Abu Denton, Acc.G down to the lowest man in the office. You would remember that Errand Boy Sanneh load a bag filled with gambia gov't bills monthly, for distribution as a means of getting everyone engaged in corrupt practices. Probably you might have been one of them; who knows. May be a brother,or sister,... , you know what; Stop it Fulbeh cus i know what am talking about!!!!!

For all the people who are wandering about the source Jammeh's wealth, THIS IS YOUR ANSWER! There is no way in hell that anybody can bring such an amount of anything into the Gambia without the professional's approval. These are very sad times for our beloved country. The way things are going, you just wander what kind of Gambia the next generation will be facing. Now, just watch. It is gonna be everybody elses fault but his. Heads will be rolling at the Customs, police and at the rotten NIA. He has been in the hot seat ever since Jesus mentioned his name. He, being close to the drug barons in Bissau just reaffirms his involvement in the whole saga. This is just one of his betrayal schemes. Trying to look pretty in the whole deal. But I think this is the begining of the end. Keep hope alive. "lord help the Gambia"
