New WAJA executive holds inaugural meeting

Officially opening the meeting, WAJA President Mohamed Garba, also President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), expressed delight in
the commitment demonstrated by the new members of the executive since their election on April 28, 2010. He further reiterated his election pledge to set a new vision, standards and practical steps to ensure ethical practice within WAJA member associations. Members of the WAJA executive deliberated extensively on Congress recommendations and put in place a Commission of Investigation, Constitutional Review and Fundraising Committees. The Investigations Commission is tasked specifically to look into all matters that were raised at the Congress which had not been clarified.
Also as part of the inaugural meeting, ACBF recruited Consultant Alice Nga Minkala epouse Mouko launched a formal dissemination for the WAJA-CBP mid-term review which highlighted the project’s successes, weaknesses and recommendations for the way forward.
ACBF representative Claude Sinzogan, Senior Programs Officer and supervising officer of the WAJA-CBP, congratulated the new executive on their election and commended them for their initiative. He reassured them of ACBF’s willingness to continue its support.
The WAJA Executive also tabled and validated the Congress Reports, the Strategic Plan 2011-2014 and proposed budget for Phase II of the project.
