New venue, date announced for U20 finals
Saturday, 19 March 2011 12:55
Gamsports - The Confederation of African Football chose South Africa this week after withdrawing the tournament from Libya because of its political problems.
Eight sides including Gambia will compete at the two-week competition, with South Africa's under-20 team drafted in to replace their Libyan counterparts despite being knocked out in the qualifiers by neighbours Lesotho.

All four semi-finalists will go on to represent Africa at July's Under 20 World Cup in Colombia. The Gambian team's preparations faced constraints last week when it failed to honour an invitation to play friendlies in Senegal. The GFA cried lack of money and for the same reason they say they country might not compete in the Olympic qualifiers starting later this month. Calls by Gamsports for the GFA to enlist government support to lobby for the U20 finals while CAF looked for a new host fell on deaf ears as the uninspiring GFA sit tight lamenting lack of funds.
Meanwhile the South Africa FA is on top of the moon with happiness with the CAF decision to choose them.
"I understand that there were several countries who were interested but luckily they chose us said a happy South African FA president.
