When the case was called for hearing at the Banjul Magistrates' Court, the embattled sports writer appeared in good spirits, determined to overcome the just started legal encounter.
Read out to him in court, the charge sheet states: "Nanama Keita sometime in the month of May 2011,in the city of Banjul, Republic of the Gambia, you presented a petition letter to the Office of the President at the State House, claiming wrongful dismissal as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and head of the sports desk, indicating details of  financial malpractices by the Managing Director of the Daily Observer Pa Malick  Faye;  Knowing same information to be false thereby committed an offense." The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.
Gambia Press Union (GPU) lawyer Lamin S. Camara, submitted an application for a bail granted  and the police prosecutor made no  objection.
A bond in the sum of D100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Dalasi) with one Gambian surety was  consequently granted by presiding magistrate.
The case is adjourned till Tuesday 19th July, 2011 for further hearing.

I am certain the international community will have noted Mr Kieta's comments about his collegue Chief Manneh.

I am certain the international company of journalists...will have noted the comments from the President of the GPU about The Observer.

I am one of those who believe in proofs and evidence.

It is certainly in The Gambia's commercial and international standing interest..to allow an independant investigation into Mr Manneh's dissappearence...and the murder of Deyda Hydara.

Clearly the Opposition should be allowed equal "air time" in The Observer and GRTS

In this...I remain opptomistic that The Gambian government..is comming around to that view.

Mike, Nanama’s persecution in the Kangaroo courts are DUE to & ALL about his divulging of evidence relating yaya jammeh & his murderous servants to Chief Manneh’s cold blood murder & NOTHING about malpractices in their political mouth piece cum newspaper.

I am listening to Mr Halake with interest..as he knows how the Observer works. I am also impressed with RKK and his objective views here.

But cum now gentlemen...this is a public interest case and as such the contribution from Mr Keita...requires the whole of the Observer Management and Board....to be the subject of an impartial company audit. Not a court case at this stage.

For in my view...the matters raised by Mr Kieta, are central to the proper financial propriety of company policy...as demanded by business and employment Law.

I have said the board should have instructed an impartial accountancy internal audit and investigation....with a report and recomendations.

At that stage...the auditors may or may not refer the case, depending on there findings.

It all comes down to "best business practice"

You cannot develop any business or nation without "structures".

RKK,

The BRITISH PARLIAMENT is today holding an Emergency Debate into some APPALLING British "Journalism". And the New York Post may have gone over the top with the DSK Guinean Maid (who herself sounds appalling - and happens to be a JALLOW! Any comments there Mathew?)

Nanama MAY somehow ‘benefit’ from revealing his encounter with Pa Malick pertaining to Chief Manneh’s murder. Yaya jammeh a manipulator; & WILL try his hands on deceiving everybody by according Nanama some differential treatments this time just to convince the International community. Nanama MUST know he has touched on some NO-GO area with his reference to Manneh’s cold blood murder; & be on the watch for his life @ ALL times. Just like with Musa Jammeh & Tumbul Tamba, etc, Yaya WILL attempt to get rid of ALL who got evidence related to chief’s gruesome murder.

well i will not support anybody who mismanage funds from observer or else where, if they have proofs let them bring it on. if malick or SANYANG, so what, you got proof go for it, we need people to tell us when we go wrong, the country is for all of us. if you have proofs give it to your lawyer. IF ALL JUDGES HANDLE THEIR CASES LIKE THIS, WE WILL THEN HAVE LESS PRESSURE.

But of course, this could be damaging for Momodou Sanyang too:-

Lawyer Camara: "Mr. Sanyang, when the detailed allegations were put before you by the Defendant, what did YOU and your Board do about it?"

Lawyer Camara: "Did you FORMALLY investigate these SERIOUS financial and management allegations?"

Lawyer Camara: "If you did investigate, can you provide the results of your investigation to the court?".

And so on. And if there was NO INVESTIGATION by the Board, the OBSERVER PROPRIETOR may want to know why the Board get their stipend each month!

@ Dida Halake...you are very right. The case could be very damaging to both Pa Malick and the Observer if Lawyer Camara manages to convince the magistrate to admit some of the evidence Nanama has about the alleged financial malpractices.

Hahahahaha....The Gambian police are really a joke. Instead of properly looking at the Observer books, they have jumped to arrest and prosecute him simply because Pa Malick is being backed by Momodou Sanyang.
