Momodou Ceesay - MSK Zilina's towering Gambian hitman attracting European interest
Tuesday, 14 December 2010 11:06
The mammoth striker has been sensational for Zilina in the Champions League in his debut season.Just four years ago, when Momodou Ceesay was beginning to ply his trade for Gambian club Wallidan, Belgian side KVC Westerlo spotted the potential in the towering forward and signed him at the age of 18.

Ceesay injected power and presence to the Jupiler league side but failed to make a lasting impression as in 32 appearances he failed to find the back of the net and was released after a two year spell.
On hand to snap the player up on a free transfer were Slovakian champions MSK Zilina who landed the striker who would soon establish himself as one of the top prospects in the league.
The forward's massive potential started translating into fine performances for his new club as his first goal came on his debut appearance and three successive goals followed in three Champions League displays.
Ceesay, nicknamed Zico in Slovakia, is much more technical and creative than you would give a player of his size credit for. He tends to drop back into offensive midfield positions and attempt to carve out opportunities by himself rather than wait for one to arise inside the box.
He is a surprisingly good passer of the ball and his pace is also impressive for his build. Predictably, he is outstanding in the air and often wins key headers for his team inside the area.
He has the attributes and qualities to become a very good striker at European level but will do well to maintain a more offensive approach to his game, as the unimpressive ratio of goals is a result of Ceesay often straying too far away from goal.
This style of play has seen him provide a good amount of assists for his teammates but has left the man who idolizes Arsenal legend Thierry Henry sporting a relatively meager tally of goals.
Still, after a highly successful European campaign with Zilina, offers are expected to arrive for Ceesay as early as the upcoming January transfer window, and the talented Gambian international, who has been capped three times for his country, scoring twice, will likely be on the move soon.
