Mighty Sabally falls again
Wednesday, 26 May 2010 23:54
By Yusupha ChamA very good friend of mind with compelling computer-like memory told me that, minus the last word, the above headline was the one published in the Daily Observer on 28 January 1995 when, three days previously, Sanna Sabally was carted off unceremoniously to the Mile Two central prisons, where he stayed for almost ten years, for a coup plot he never
committed as it later turned out be. Once I learned this fact from various credible sources much later after his incarceration, I sympathized with his situation but at the same time took it as the beginning of his part of the punishment that awaits him and his colleagues for the brutal cold murder of innocent soldiers in November 1994.
Fifteen years on today, 2010, I am compelled to write the same headline, provoked by his latest show of actions.
I said he has fallen again because the very little respect and sympathy, if any at all, people have for him has gone after reading his piece attacking the good person of Chongan.
The first thing Sana Sabally should have done immediately after coming out of the Mile Two gates, was to apologize to the Gambian people for the slaughter of scores of soldiers on that November morning, news of which was first broken by no one else but himself, thus giving him the status of the first ever official to confirm the summary execution of Gambians.
On that occasion, Sabally was a sane person, in full control of his good senses, and all what he showed for it was relishing and abusing the power and affluence that he unexpectedly found in his hands. That shameful announcement spiraled the dark ages in Gambian history under this regime which Sabally helped to establish. Sabally's love for terror and immature behavior with guns and vehicles in the Gambia was well known and documented. To cut it short, it was Sabally's violent behavior that enabled Gambians to understand the power and malignancy of the military government which controls our destiny up to this day. This was the Sana Sabbaly we dealt with in the second half of 1994.
I mentioned this early history of Sabally's life because I believe that was the last time he had use of his good senses. The ensuing ten years at Mile Two had reduced Sabally to a cornered tiger, forced to while away time in a dungeon doing nothing but reading the holy Quran thousand times over. Like Okonkwo in Achebe's Things Fall Apart, when he came back, from seven years of mental and physical exile, Sabally lost touch of the realities in the world that surrounded him which of course has changed rapidly through the years and made him lost in delusion and frustration, angry with everybody, a state of mind undoubtedly strongly influenced by the traumatic experience of the horrors he encountered in his detention cell which shook the validity of any of his self conceived importance and highlighted the precariousness of his own life and its fundamental meaninglessness and arbitrariness.
This is the Sana Sabally we are dealing with today. I have doubt if he had not lost his good senses at Sarro, his utterances world have taken a softer tone and an apologetic style. But the wording of his reaction to Chongan goes to confirm that up to this day, he has not regretted anything of his role in the July 22 “Revolution”. He still speaks as if he is still proud of his wild and violent actions during those mad days of the military regime, despite the overwhelming condemnation of that part of our history by well meaning people. Sana should be happy to wait until the day when he and his former boss arrives at the Hague, negotiate plea bargain and testify against his boss so that the world can get to the bottom of the cruel things that happened during and after those days. In the meantime though, he should undergo psychosocial treatment for engendering terror and anarchy upon Gambians and also for undergoing one himself. This would be a good remedy to an interpersonal hurt that he is suffering from. Mr Bairo Sanna Sabally, since you are well versed in the Holy Quran, please go through this Surah in verse (93 - 94) in Surah An- Nisaa ‘’ If a man kills a Believer Intentionally, his recompense Is hell, to abide therein (forever): and the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a dreadful and chastisement is prepared for him’’. End of quote.

He should be brought to justice!!!
So bro., let us focus on the right direction of the challenges ! Sheickh Sana Bairo Sabally is part of us whether we hate him or like him, he will never ever be a German.. As the saying goes like this in Manding Bolong:
"YIROO SIMEH NYAAWOONYANG BAAKONO, ABUKA YELEMA BAMBOOTI".. Means However long it may take a clock in the sea, it will never change to be a Crocodile.

Eevn though I am not always a fan of Lalo Kebba because of his unpredictabilit y on issues here I do believe that he has a point on this one. I am not saying you are wrong or he is right, what I am saying is that none of us here has any right to condemn Sana because of what he did in the past. That is for Allah (God) to do.
If we really mean what we keep pushing for here - tolerant, justice, bla, bla, bla- some of us need to learn how to be tolerant towards others.
So just know that Lalo is in fact not quoting the Qur'an wrongly; he has a point in this...
Both of you are on same side of issue, so no need for misunderstandin g. Sanna have yet to formally appologise to victims & families but have coiled from his initial aggressive attitude as he's got the message that he's committed heinous crime that can't & hadn't been swept under carpet yet. Lalo is not wrong in interceding for forgiveness on sanna as provided for by the Quran. Sanna has to publicly acknowledge to mistakes of murders committed & ask for family of victims' forgiveness; for while God can forgive for crimes committed towards Him, only humans can forgive offences committed against human person. God’s forgiveness won't 'save' sanna for this, it's the victims & families.
Remember Bro., when the prophet told the Meccans: EZHABUU WA ANTUM TULAQAA !
You know one thing, if the sweet words are still remaining, let us not talk roughly let us be respecting each other and try to comment on my rejoinders with respect as Iam responding you here or else just forget about my ideas here...
I rest my Case....

Is it a crime to quoting from the Qur'an as a muslim ? Well if you feel it in that way then you need to change your able name which is connected to our able prophet Muhammad, and whether you like it or not, we will keep on giving Sheickh Sana Sabally a courage for him to repent, If you're not new to this room, I was the first to attacked Sana here with a very powerful Hadith, and I can also tell you here that one of my brothers died in 11 of November 1994 holding a rank of Lt. But what will be the use of attacking Sana when this brother can't ever come to life anymore ? You know bro, we have to wake up with the new era !
