Malian authorities reassure continued support for WAJA

WAJAAs part of activities held alongside its inaugural meeting in Bamako, September 16-17, 2010, the WAJA Executive paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moctar Ouane.
WAJA President Mohamed Garba thanked the Malian Authorities for the provision of a secretariat for its Capacity Building Project, other exemptions, support for its international staff.WAJA
The WAJA executive commended the Malian Government for the support it rendered to the press at home, the structures it has made available to them and ease of access to officials and information.  They then called on Minister Ouane to encourage the Government to complement their positive strides in respect for press freedom and freedom of expression by working towards an initiative to put in place a Freedom of Information Law.  
WAJA officials also requested that Mali supports the recent Draft Resolution on the Safety and Security of Journalists submitted to the African Union Commission by the Federation of African Journalists.
In response, Moctar Ouane, Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed WAJA officials to Mali and said it is the responsibility of the Malian Authorities to support WAJA, who chose Bamako as home of its Project and as part of their wider efforts to work with the press as partners in development.
He further stated that the Malian authorities recognize the press, civil society as a critical ‘vectors’ of the democratic processes and that they accept constructive criticism as the way forward for improved service delivery.
Reassuring the WAJA delegation and the Malian press of the continued support, friendship and partnership of the Government, Minister Ouane also stated that it is a pride for them that the Malian Government has a fraternal, mutual and respectful relationship with the press.

Look at countries like Mali, it leaves me wondering what is it that we Gambians have done to have waranted the kind of leadership we have.
Cant Yahya Jammeh's see that you do not need to be a tyrant and oppressor to remain in power? Or does he want to die there? That shall never happen, buddy...
