Magistrate threatens to send journalist to Mile 2
Thursday, 11 November 2010 21:01
Magistrate Surahata Danso of Bundung Magistrate Court threatened to send Abubacarr Saidykhan to the remand wing of Mile 2 Central Prison on Tuesday 9th of November 2010.
Mr Saidykhan is a reporter with Foroyaa Newspaper and faces charges of common assault, assaulting a police officer and wilful damage of property.

According to Magistrate Danso, the accused alleged that the court treated him unfairly whenever his counsel is not in court.
"I am asking you to prove the unfair treatment that is being meted out to you when your counsel is not in court," demanded Danso.
He said that if the accused person failed to prove the alleged unfair treatment, he was going to remand him at the Mile 2 Central Prisons.
The presiding Magistrate said the accused, while being cross examined, was not answering the questions posed to him by the prosecutor.
"Instead of answering the questions put to him by the prosecutor, he was giving an explanation as if he was giving evidence in chief, noted Danso.
He also said the accused has not been behaving well during court proceedings, he had been pretending to know all when he did not know anything.
"Since the onset of this case, I have been observing that the accused has not been comporting himself well,” Magistrate Danos said.
However, the observations by the magistrate have been contested by the accused person who argued that throughout the proceeding he had been respectful and abiding.
"Your worship, I have always shown a great deal of respect to this court," Saidykhan remarked. He said his source of concern is the prosecutor telling him certain things.
Having tasked the accused to substantiate his claim of unfair treatment, Magistrate Danso decided to withdraw his threat of sending the accused to remand.
"You have been forgiven, but this is your last chance, if you repeat it you will be shown no mercy, declared the magistrate. But he went on to warn the accused that the charges he faces were serious.
