Lightening causes salary payment delay in Sedhiou

Reports monitored on the Senegalese News Agency (APS) indicates that public funds allocated to the Southern region of Sedhiou are being blocked for over one month by the collateral effects of thunder. The natural disaster, which caused the destruction of the treasury’s electric circuits, has left hundreds of civil servants unpaid at the end of July.
“This technical dysfunction has occurred since July 4, 2010, during a torrential rain accompanied by thunder, which totally botched computer installation”, revealed a staffer at the treasury department under condition of anonymity.
In fact, his words were corroborated by a number of heads of regional and departmental services who confirmed to APS that the situation has caused inconvenience to the functioning of their various services resulting from the public funds’ blockage for more than a month.
Paradoxically, the town has a dozen of lightning conductors but the protection system does not seem to be functional as both the prefecture and the bus station have been hit by the natural phenomenon.
Over the years, Sedhiou has been confronted with problems of lightning which have caused immense damages to electrical and especially electronic circuits.
Worst: three years back, lightning killed two children at the municipal stadium which is equipped with a protection system. A veritable stumbling block that the authorities need to overcome for the betterment of the populations…
