Landmark drug case suffers another setback

gambia-courtAs prosecution demands adjournment
By Abdoulie John

The trial of 12 people linked to the over 2 tons cocaine seized in Gambia has suffered another setback as the prosecution applied once again for the case to be adjourned till next week.
The development left the big crowd that stormed the premises of Banjul Magistrate’s Court dissatisfied. Many people are still wondering when the most awaited audition will finally proceed.gambia-court
When the matter came up for hearing today the prosecution, which revealed that it had finalized its inquiry, only submitted an application for the trial to be adjourned till Wednesday, July 7, 2010. “Considering that the investigation into this case recently concluded and the case file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), I humbly apply before this court for the case to be adjourned in order to enable the prosecution to get legal advice from the Attorney General Chambers,” requested Chief Inspector Abdoulie Ceesay of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA). The Public Relations Officer of  the country’s anti-narcotic agency, Mr Ceesay is also the officer prosecuting the matter.
Far from opposing a complete denial to the prosecution’s application, Lawyer Lamin Camara, one of the three defense counsels, made it very clear that he will vehemently counter any attempt engineered by the prosecution to delay a speedy trial.
“The accused persons have the right to a speedy trial,” he pointed out.
Lawyer Camara also deplored the fact that accused persons are still not allowed to see their family members, describing such a condition as contrary to the prisons rules and regulations.
"The prisons rules entitled to prisoners visitation rights and right to communicate with friends and families," he said.
In his ruling, the magistrate presiding over the drug case denied the request made by the defense counsels to allow all the accused persons to have access to family members, and acceded to adjourn the case till next week.
The 12 accused were arrested in May this year, in connection with the seizure of 2 tons of cocaine amounted to over 1 billion US dollars. This colossal discovery put the Gambia on the spotlight as drug traffickers are increasingly extending their tentacles over the Western Africa sub-region.

Badara, I believe yaya's himself engaged in drug peddling hence his relationship with General Bubo Natchuto Bubo & other revelations in his 'best' IG's courts where Essa was said to have told colleagues in the trade that yaya's the Major & he, Essa's drugs supplier shows. When Essa can amass a wealth estimated to be just short of D8, 000,000.oo in 2years as IG, what do you reckon yaya's would be for some 16years???? For your info, yaya DON'T donate to ANY government department personally. The articles/monies allegedly donated, are rather acquired through loans & grants taken in name of ALL Gambians. Whilst some of these monies go in to yaya's own personal errands far from interest of Gambians in whose name the loans were acquired & will have to foot the bill with all its enormous interests accrued.

Am sorry, but I real won't waste my precious time on the same yadi, yadi, yadi crap your type have been engaged on for the 16 years. If you want matured and dignified discourse with substance, bring it on. Until then don't expect any form this brother.

I meant Yahya Jammeh is not directly involved but indirectly. You try and engage in debates rather posting words like yadi yadi yadi and foul languages. It gives an image that you have no brain to reason, argue and say you own opinion instead writes word like yadi yadi yadi and foul languages. Am sure you wouldn’t want Jammeh to be surround by folks who cant think for themselves instead uses words like yadi yadi and foul languages to speak for him. I am sure you are respectful, clever and smarter than writing words like yadi yadi yadi on postings. Tell us what you think and your reasons please. Just engage and enlighten Gambians about Yahya you knew. You do love Gambia more than Yahya or? So engage for the sake of Gambia. Gambia stays 4 eternity rather than you, me or Yahya if it make sense!

Hi Reader
Part 3
Is only in Gambia in that a President directly and indirectly invested money in private sector to get procurement of Government business to his private ventures. It only in Gambia that a president will donate money to a develop country like Taiwan from his “pocket”( instead of sending manpower as richer countries with much more money does).. That why such cocaine was found in Gambia without the any significant individuals arrested except the “12 workers”. Unlike Bissau, Jammeh knows that to stay and enjoy life as normal he does now, then Gambia should not be like Bissau. The cost will be his life and his throne just like Bissau’s Vieira who described himself as "God's gift" to Guinea-Bissau during his tenure in office. In reference the characteristics of Jammeh,I truly believe that he is Laundering money. That the main reason why south American Drugs Cartels include Gambia in their profiling and use of some West Africa countries as their hub.

Hi Reader
Part 2
He personally mingle with Drug Barons in Bissau (e.g Sahna stay in government sanctuary in Gambia). His contacts with MFDC rebels (limited for now) in Bassau and Gambia, who deals with Drug lords to finance destabilising Senegambia. That’s Corruption in all aspects. If I was a Latin drug cartel, Gambia and Bissau will be my target because of the qualities of the respective country’s leadership style. Yahya jammeh is doing money laundering; I therefore believed that some of this money is from Cocaine deals in Gambia down the coast to Bissau. He might not be directly involve but might “GET” donations etc. from people directly involved. I believe it only in Gambia that a president will dig from his pocket to give donations to public sector as the Jeeps given to the Army, The Jeeps given to the NDEA drug department recently, and the list go on. Please prove me wrong

Hi Reader
Part 1
It is the right of every citizen to question the wealth accumulated by leaders to detect illegitimate earning and interest of conflict. It is the source of incompetence, corruption, dictatorship, greed, undemocratic principles, zeal to stay life in power, tribal wars, nepotism, forced imprisonment, civil war, etc. Even corrupt Nigeria leaders have to declare their wealth now. Jammeh has accumulated a huge wealth in his office terms which all of us are aware of? But where did he get all that money from is not known to any yet. The evidence is that, Jammeh is giving money and vehicles to Public Sectors all the time, without telling us where it came from. Jammeh is investing “unknown source” money in private sector and government procurements without anyone questioning its source (This is Call Money Laundering in Economic Term). Please prove me wrong!

From army officers, drugs officers, police chiefs and even "real chiefs" (district seyfos) are all on trial.
These days Gambia feels like one big court room!
I can't wait to go open a law firm over there! There is such a shortage of lawyers that consultation fees of D10,000. is considered just peanuts!

I doubt if Yahya is directly involved in this business. His actions and speech at the NDEA few days ago shows that. He knows,Gambia being a drug heaven will encourage drug lords to challenge him brutality or even eliminate him in in the streets of Banjul. Dictators, who allowed cocaine "Business" end up being kill, assassinate or remove easily as in some Mexican cities, Columbia, and Guinea Bissau. The maths is simple, they are ruthless than Jammeh and will kill him at any time if he start behaving as he does to poor Gambians. One thing I want to know is where Yahya Jammeh got all his monies from to donate all those new brand pickups (Jeeps) to NDEA (see raaki.com tv). Why should a head of state give money and resources to Public sectors from his bank account. Who fatten up that bank account? How and where did he get that money from? Cocaine is brought to Gambia bcos Gambia is rule by corrupt ruler. Latin drugs lords, Bassau rotten army & policians, MDFC casamance pigs all knew.
