Kukoi’s Plea for Radical Change in Gambia is Barbaric and Boorish

koukoie-sDear Mr. Editor
By Concerned Gambian, USA

Please allow me space in your widely read online newspaper to dismiss the ongoing crude and insensitive campaign rhetoric about radical change in the Gambia particularly from my dear brother, Kukoie Samba Sanyang.
Mr. Sanyang, who once led an armed rebellion in July 1981 against the democratically elected government of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, has been aggressively using the freedom newspaper to promote his barbaric and boorish philosophies of revolutionary change in the Gambia. Mr. Editor, although Mr. Sanyang shares equal platforms tokoukoie-s express his views in the current situation in the Gambia like the rest of us in your "fair and balanced" online newspaper; at the same time I believe he is instigating war in the hearts and minds of those Gambians who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shriek and groans of a dying combatant. I believe, blindly advocating armed conflicts in the name of revolutionary change in the Gambia is inhumanly unacceptable and should be scorned.
As a patriotic Gambian and a true citizen of peace, progress and prosperity, I would like to encourage Mr. Sanyang and his accomplices to lay down their arms, diminish the war mentality and extinguish old radical philosophical flames of terror and violence to effect change. Effective change calls for sanity, resilience and compromise. Mr. Sanyang, I share the understanding that you have been bent, compressed and stretched like a rubber band in your years of exile but now is not the time for a radical change but a time for positive democratic change.
When I speak of positive democratic change, I am referring to working towards transforming all politics, domestic and international, so utterly uniform and transparent that the "natural pacifism" of plain folk's war is mummified six feet deep. Opposition to war and violence is our way forward. The glory of war is all moonshine. Mr. Sanyang, your track record of being an active mercenary stands in the hearts and minds of bereaved families of the 1981 coup d'état. Your claim alone that Jammeh has a price on your head is not justifiable enough to lead another revolt of atrocities within the sub-region. Point fingers all you want but you are still accountable for the loss of lives in the 1981 coup attempt in The Gambia and will not be cleared until you are tried and prosecuted in a Gambian court of law. Until then, your image as a war monger and mercenary rules the verdict.
Furthermore, those families of your so called brave sons and daughters that were murdered in the July 1981 coup attempt will not only honor President Jammeh's  alleged attempt to kidnap and extradite you to the Gambia for trial and possible execution, but will celebrate with joy to see you buried next to Mustapha Danso ( murderer of Emmanuel Mahoney ).  Our beloved country, the Gambia, does need a radical change. War is not a solution to any problem. It is destructive and costly to the human development of any nation. My dear brother, I am sure in your past experience as a mercenary in Liberia and Sierra Leone you and your so called "sons of the revolution" contributed to the merciless murders and amputations of thousands of women and children folk of that country. Once again, I call upon you to repent and ask for forgiveness, understanding from God almighty and the people of The Gambia.
Mr. Sanyang, there are better opportunities to chew on than propagating a revolutionary change. Try using your resources to influence and direct investors; promote goodwill, peace and prosperity for our beloved country. The least you can do for your country right now is to establish a non-profit organization to support the welfare of women and children living in your own midst. Another worthy cause you can utilize your resources (i.e. if you have any?)  is to promote higher education by offering financial contribution through existing donor organizations to schools and families in the Gambia. These are similar examples of the kinds of positive changes your archenemy President Jammeh is doing to win the hearts and minds of supporters of the APRC government despite related allegations to his connection with terror networks, drug dealing to name few. I am not saying that these contributions have cleared him from any wrong doing but have an added value on his moral responsibilit!
y as head of state.
In conclusion, Mr. Sanyang, I want you to understand that I am not affiliated to any political party; I speak in anonymity to avoid any form of attacks against my family and for my own safety. I live miles away from the Gambia and a frequent visitor. In the interest of promoting democracy and good governance, I am also urging the Gambia government to allow the judiciary and the legislative branches of government to do their jobs freely and independent without fear or intimidation any sort. Freedom of press, expression and speech is all essential to the democratic process. Work towards strengthening and building lasting relationships with neighboring Senegal. With that said The Gambia government should also allow a free and fair democratic electoral process for the upcoming 2011 presidential elections by giving all parties equal access to media outlets.
To all Gambians listening to the calls of revolutionary attacks against our peaceful country, please lay down your arms and put all grudges aside. Use the media and other diplomatic processes as your weapon. A peaceful solution is a lasting solution. Let those who want to fight the government by force face the wrath alone and distance your selves from them. Personally, I learned enough lessons in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Angola. There is an idiom that "a soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbons," but a wise man does not set out to make a pathological reaction impossible, but to give the patient's ego freedom to decide one way or the other.  So if we need to make a decision to change the government, it should be through peaceful diplomatic means not war and radicalism.
Thank you.

Kukoi is a delinquent, dissident “son” of The Gambia who has no shame or remorse 4 d atrocities he caused in 1981. Don’t mind him what awaits him is to be slain by those who r more butchery than he is. ‘Luwai-Def Sa Bopa’ the things that man do falls after him.
Kukoi has been blinded by his blood yarning thirst, his inhumane metamorphism, his desperate hunger for power etc etc..; and this shameless creature will never rest irrespective of whoever takeover d mantle of leadership in d Gambia. Mark my words. We pray 4 d day of peaceful change of regime to uncover d delinquent, despondent and unscrupulous nature of kukoi. A jungle creature has no room in a civilised Gambian society of ours but rather to join its fellow ones in d jungle.
Is better 4 Kukoi to seek 4giveness, remain mute and leave Gambia in d hands of sane opposition who r not blood thirsty. Kukoi U better do what Sanna Sabally has resorted to and keep a low profile.

Samba, think before say something. It is because of jollofnews, that you are able to post a comment, jollofnews does not discriminate (i hope it stays so). If jollofnews defies any Gambian's opinion, then they become, what they are against. Let the Hypocrite perceive their deception, because they lie with sincerity. These fools perform tricks and treachery, because everyone knows that the do not have the balls to say the truth.

I have no idea that jollofnews allows such a hypocrite a space to spread his cowardice. You must be proud to show Jammeh what you achieved.

If you really care about democracy, Liberia or any kind of violence you are bla bla blaing here... god knows you will be the one in the forefront in attacking that ruthless ruler Yahya Jammeh. Well Yahya Jammeh brutality on your people is alright to be quite about, but kukio sanyang and all the research you have done on him can motivate you like this is just hypocritical of you. You are concerned about Kukoi's and not the 16 years of brutality on your people. I think jollofnews should be wary of people like you since you are worse than Kukio in bringing democracy to Gambia to avoid such rages like kukoi. Concerned Gambian who you fooling my brother

Continued from below
Just to point at the treacherous nature of Yaya Jammeh; he tried to befriend Kukoi, ignoring the 1981 saga, and when he failed to win his support, he wants Gambians to believe that this very same Kukoi is bad. Did yaya jammeh not know that there was something wrong with Kukoi at the time he invited him to Kanilai. What does Jammeh think Gambians are? Fool?

Concerned Gambian,
You indeed must be commended for your well put points. However, I think you went a little less than addressing the issue entirely.
This goes to all those who continue to view this man, Sanyang, as someone with no love for his country; here is a man who felt there was the need to change, he took arms, which was by no means the right thing to do. But in any case he failed. If he had succeeded his resulting government would eventually become legimate.
Now, over 10yrs later, Yahya Jammeh had the same feeling for change and what did he do that is different from Kukoi's action. He took arms... he did not approach Banjul empty handed, did he? Which is to say if they had failed to get what they wanted, they would have fought and lives would have been lost. What is the difference between Jammeh and all those who have worked with him since 1994 to day, and Kukoi?

"A man is the sum of his actions, of what he has done, of what he can do, Nothing else", quoting Gandhi. Concern Gambian, you talked about Mr Sanyang track record, how about you track record. What have you done in the name of peace for the suffering people here in the Gambia, i would love to have you spit that out for everyone to know. You hide behind your computer, and say all these nonsense about peace, you not Gandhi. If you want to portray yourself as a man of peace, how about you come to the Gambian and fight in the name of peace for us Gambians. Start an uprising, educate the people, protest against the unrepresented or as Gandhi say "Be the change you want to see in the world." But no, because you do not know how it feels to have you parent snatch, from your home, and you can't tell of his fate, if he is dead or not. So please express your plead for peace to non victims. We here are doing what we can, and time will soon tell.

Quoting Mafuji:
Concer Gambian, though your letter made some valid points, you have to respect the views of Kukoi Sanyang as well. In 1981, Kukoi was only trynig to remove a corrupted government of the few that went on to stay in power for 30 years - this alone made Kukoi vindicated. Let bygone be bygone, if there is anybody that could make Dictator Jammeh scare is Kukoi. Long live Kukoi Sanyang.

Satans followers will face the same barbaric fate on D-day. wicked coward!
