Judgment on Saidykhan torture case is December 16
Wednesday, 15 December 2010 11:09

Saidykhan, who now lives in exile, was among a number of Gambians who were illegally arrested and detained by notoriously feared National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and held incommunicado for long periods without trial or charge in the aftermath of purported coup detat in 2006.
Saidykhan, in July 2010 during a cross examination told the regional court of how he was tortured and became unconscious for about thirty minutes. He fled the country to neighbouring Senegal, where he received treatment.
Unable able to get justice within Gambia, Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) through its Media Legal Defence Programme initiated the action to seek justice for him and many others who have suffered the brutalities of the repressive regime of President Yahya Jammeh.
Issued by the MFWA, Accra, December 14, 2010
The MFWA is a regional independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Accra. It was founded in 1997 to defend and promote the rights and freedom of the media and all forms of expression.
