Gamcotrap duo granted bail
Wednesday, 20 October 2010 15:01
Two female human rights and gender activists detained by the Gambian authorities have been granted bail.
Dr Isatou Touray, Executive Director of Gamcotrap and her programme coordinator, Amie Bojang Sissoho, were granted bail today, after a
hearing at the Banjul Magistrates Courts. They were granted bail on the sum of D1, 500,000 ($50,000) and D1.000500 ($33350) respectively.According to our correspondent, the prosecution wanted the activist remanded in custody, but the defense objected, citing the fact that the police had already concluded their investigation. They argued that there was no reason to continue keeping them in continued detention.
The case will resume on November 3rd, 2010.
