Jammeh avoids the ‘Zuma Sydrome’
Wednesday, 06 October 2010 22:59
By Abdoulie JohnIn what can be described as an attempt to contain any media speculation over the title of ‘First Lady’, after marrying a second wife, President Yahya Jammeh has ruled out addressing Alima Sallah ‘First Lady’.
“She is not to be addressed as the First Lady because according to protocol, there can only be one First Lady, and in this case, that is Madam
Zineb Yahya Jammeh,” stated last Friday a dispatch from the Office of the President. The news of his marriage with Lady Alima Sallah triggered much interest in the public, the country’s media outlets and the Diasporas’ online newspapers. For many observers, the Gambian leader’s new polygamous status immediately confronted him with the “Jacob Zuma Syndrome.”
Needless to say that by clearly indicating that there can only be only one First Lady in the person of Madam Zeinab Yahya Jammeh, President Jammeh ipso facto closed the debate over who will serve as First Lady. A political act that will certainly give idea to his South African counterpart…

I understand how the thought process of all Jammeh supporters work, so I am not surprised at you identifying me as another contributor.
Besides, the point some one raised is quite fundamental and needs response. Unfortunately we are not in a democratic world where our leadership feels answerable to its people. Otherwise Yahya Jammeh should explain to us why the decision to go against what he preaches. Or what just makes him different from the elderly Gambians he has lambasted in the past for marrying more than one wife?
Maybe you can explain, Pa Pierre, as you have constantly tried to do in the past.
I think JOE is right, you should try Jammeh's Witch Concoction..... hey, am just sharing my opinion
My guts tell me that this is Abdourahman. Anyway, i could be wrong. Hey, u are entitled to your opinion. I have stated mine
Don't you know that we gave up on that old cynic PA-PIERRE? The guy is incurable. Perhaps Jammeh's herbal remedies can help him!
When you enter a forest after a storm, it is the rigid trees like oaks that you find broken and scattered all over the place, but FLEXIBLE trees like willows remain mostly intact. Why?
It is the same with human beings.Inflexible and intolerant people who cannot bend with the "wind" will have the hardest of time, and we know about Jammeh,s rigid and inflexible attitude towards anything contrary to his views.GAY PEOPLE,cut off their heads! DRUG DEALERS,death sentence! JOURNALISTS AND HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS,Mile 2! ANY OTHER DISSENTERS, Six feet deep! And he wonders why he is catching hell from all these swirling storms of daily controversies. Look in the mirror dude, and talk to the guy staring back at you.
I mean, for God's sake, please do try to know when and where to mention certain names talking about this man. What does you analogy suggests anyway? We are talking about some practicing what he preaches against,s ome one who preside over the murder, forced disappearance or unlawful jailing of people who criticise him. And you compare him with Obama? You are a joker, Pa Pierre, for real!
If Obama gets all these names, i think Jammeh should be smiling. Cus in this business, it is normal to be confronting a passionate n unrelenting haters
Peace!
I believe that the president shows a very bad gesture to those who would do or like to do thesame as marrying two or more wifes.
I don't have no hope for development in the future as the population would grow more and the govenment unable to provide for all.
