Imam Ngaido is said to have appeared before magistrate Taiwo at the Banjul magistrate court on Thursday 30th March and he was charged for human and child trafficking.
According to our sources, Imam Ngaido has been granted bail in the sum of D500, 000 with a leased landed property within the greater Banjul Area; but the accused is yet to fulfill his bail conditions. According to a close relative, it is impossible for them to meet the bail requirements. This means if the accused is found guilty he is likely to spend 50 years in jail.
Imams and Islamic scholars from the Upper River Region, Central River Region and within the Kanifing municipality are currently pleading with the Jammeh administration to tamper justice with mercy and free the old man.
Imam Ngaido is said to have educated hundreds of Gambians and Senegalese seeking Qur’anic knowledge without asking for any fees from their parents. As a traditional way of learning the Qur’an, he has been doing this for decades and many disciples has successfully completed their Islamic education through him.
Lawyer Mboge is said to be representing the accused.

I call this Child Exploitation in the name of Allah. We can teach religion at the same time prepare them for our future. They are all capable of becoming doctors and scientist. If we want a better Gambia, as responsible adults we must stand against such abuse. I personally, applaud the Gambia Judicial System for taking a stand against such disgusting act!
