‘Impossible’ bail condition for detained rights defender

edwinBy Yaya Dampha
The Director of Programmes of the Banjul-based Africa in Democracy and Good Governance (ADG), Mr Edwin Nebolisa Nkakaeme, has been given an ‘‘impossible’’ bail condition of 10 Million dalasis, according to sources.
Mr Nkakaeme was reportedly requested to provide as bail conditions two Gambian sureties with landed properties valued at 5 million dalasi each. This, sources added, the accused has not been able to meet, and he is therefore languishing in jail.
A Nigerian, the accused is standing trial for giving ‘false information.’ He is expected to reappear in court on Thursday, 15 April 2010 as his case couldn’t proceed on the 22nd and 24th of last March due to reported ill health of the prosecution.

The so-called Africa in Democracy and Good Governance (ADG) programmes are just used as a cover for fraud. This man's no better than his Nigerian criminals/mercenaries in our dilapidating judiciary system. The choice of yaya's daughter can only be seen as worthy/genuine if yaya practices any credible governance/democracy. He just deserves what he got for taking Gambians for ride with his falsehood. Why didn't he form his so-called Democracy & good governance programmes in Nigeria? He knew nobody would listen to him over there as all Nigerians are familiar with '419' for deceit & corruption. No wonder they are invited by yaya to destroy are society but only fall out with them when they want to defraud his person. We can't blame yaya this time because crooks knew each other's colour & can always identify each another.
