IDB Sinks US$ 470m on Gambia Projects

(PANA) - The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is to finance 20 projects in various sectors of Gambian economy,
to the tune of about US$ 470 million, PANA reported Thursday. This was disclosed by IDB’s West Africa Division Country Operations Department Manager, Musa Sillah, after a meeting with Gambia’s Vice-President, Isatou Njie-Saidy, on Wednesday.
Mr. Sillah, who flew in from his base in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is on a working visit to the West African country in a bid to further the cooperation agreement between IDB and the Gambia.
“We are concluding the mission today and we have been able to identify about 20 projects worth over US$ 470 million, to be precise,” he told reporters in Banjul, the Gambian capital.
The IDB senior official further explained that several projects within Gambia’s education, health, agriculture and others had been identified for financing in the coming years.
“These are all priority areas the government considered in the Programme for Accelerated Growth and Employment in the Gambia and IDB will do its utmost to come and support in achieving these objectives,” Sillah asserted
