Dismissed Daily Observer MD Trying To Enter US

Pa Malick Faye(JollofNews) – Pa Malick Faye, the man behind the disappearance and possible death of journalist Chief Ebrima Manneh, has fled Gambia.

He is said to be trying to enter the United States where he wants to seek asylum.

Mr Faye is apparently wanted by President Yahya Jammeh’s notorious National Intelligence (NIA), who are reported to be investigating corruption allegations at the Observer Company, publisher of the Daily Observer newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Jammeh administration.

Ironically, as MD of the company, Faye worked closely with the very same NIAs to subject scores of his own colleagues to troubles in the hands of the Gambian government. That is why many people fear that if he finds his way into the US, he may seek protection and enjoy the freedom he helped deny many innocent Gambians in connivance with the increasingly alienated Jammeh government.

Sources in Gambia have corroborated earlier reports that at least three senior members of Faye’s administration as Observer MD were recently detained, including Marketing Manager Amie Manka, and accountant Yasin Faal.

Also reportedly detained is the company’s procurement officer, James Campbell.

But all three officials were later released on bail, pending investigation, sources added.

Other sources told JollofNews that Mr Faye may have anticipated a possible arrest following his ignominious dismissal from the company which forced him to flee the country.

He is reported to be in the capital of neighbouring Senegal, Dakar.

The former reporter turned Managing Director has been accused by his former colleagues for causing the downfall of many people, both in government and at the pro-government Daily Observer newspaper. But he is particularly notorious for plotting with Dr Saja Taal, a former MD of the Observer Company, and the late Director General of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), Momodou Sanyang, to implicating Journalist Chief Manneh.

Then a burden editor, Manneh was accused of sabotaging Yahya Jammeh’s government, and he was detained by the NIAs since 2006.

Up to now no one knows his correct fate.

The government continues to deny knowing anything about him, in the face of global pressure, and even though colleagues of the disappeared journalists have named some of the NIA agents who arrested him in their presence at the Daily Observer offices in Bakau.

Faye is the only living person who could directly account for Manneh’s situation outside the government.

Pa Malick Faye, stop hiding behind pseudo names trying to reinvent your already battered image. Yes, Jammeh is to blame for Chief Manneh's continued disappearance but would he have been arrested in the first place if you'd not reported him in hopes of getting favors from Dr. Taal. Besides, Chief isnt your only victim, Kemo, Abdoulie John and of course my humble self here are all your victims. I dont care who stands with you or not, but I can tell you that u'd be made to pay for your wicked deeds. The rules in U.S. are very clear; a person that persecutes or aid in persecution of someone else is NOT eligible for refugee status in U.S. And even if you're granted without them knowing it, your status would be revoked if challenged by someone with credible evidence. So make no mistake, I Nanama would challenge you on this in any U.S immigration office/court cuz you don't deserve that protection you'd denied others before. You made your bed, so you must lay on it.

I ve worked with both Pa Malik and Chief Manneh during my time at observer. When i started Chief was then in Ghana and it was Pa malik who introduced to Chief through email. Pa malik mentored at the beginning and I can attest that Pa Malik and Chief were the best buddies and were very close. Whatever happen after i left in I do not know. I want justice for Chief and the many others who have suffered in the hands of this regime. Pa Malik if you are reading this, i just want you to that this is your golden opportunity to tell the world all you know. By doing so you will do good to yourself and The Gambia.

Look, whatever happened to Manneh can be blamed on Jammeh....And frankly speaking, we can blame Jammeh for everything or we can try being our brother's keeper and unilaterally stop this nonesense of reporting each other over a piece of cigeratte to the NIA...

In Basse, i used to get a VIP ride with the Base commander or sometimes go on light patrol with him.. I get all types of respect at the camp...

In the 2001 general elections, i was at a pooling station when an opposition supporter wanted to assult an APRC big wig.. I witnessed the whole incident.. Half an hour later, the camp commander arrived n asked if i wanted to join him go round the region monitoring the pools..

i declined n explained to him the opposition militant who started trouble at the station i was..he requested i give him the name of the militant n i refused...

today, i dont look back with guilt..or regreats like many other gambians....

You can defend Pa Malick all you can but the truth remains that he has been part and parcel of the evil machinery in the Gambia. The records are there to speak for themselves. Is high time we accept that the evil being done in Gambia is a collective responsibility between yaya jammeh and all his accomplices like pa malick and a lot more.Let pa malick go to hell

First of all i would like to commend you for the wonderful job you are doing to enlighten Gambians. Well i think all of us should call a spade a spade and stop personal attacks. As a Gambian i think it is incorrect to deviate from the truth just to settle personal scores. I used to live in Bakau from 1997 to 2008 and knew a lot of people at the Observer then. But i knew from a credible source that it was Pa Malick and Lamin Dibba that stopped the publication from coming out as it was already printed by the printers. What followed was that Dr Taal has a bitter quarrel with Manneh which prompted him to use his influence to report Manneh to the NIA.Even Dr. Taal never thought the issue will go to this extent. Lets point accusing fingers at the NIA and the leadership and not a decent young man like Mr Faye. If any of your Staff did has a problem with Mr faye pls settle it personally. Pls lets all blame the government for the many disappearances. Lets be fair to one another.

I vehemently disagree with your assertion about Pa Malick. One thing for sure i know that two of your editorial staff did have a personal problem with him while at the Observer. So to use that problem to as springboard to attack him is totally against the journalism ethics. I there is any Gambian who should be held responsible for the Manneh issue it should be President Jammeh, Captain Saine of the NIA, and Dr. Saja Taal I was a former staff of the Ministry of Interior and Mr Fayes name has never been mention in all the panels we conducted on the issue.Pls be fair to him because i know the relationship Mr Faye still has with the Manneh Family.I hope my comments will be taken within the context of fairness and impartiality. Thank You Mr. Editor.
