Gunjur Chief Ajay Janneh; Others Arrested

chief-ajay-janneh-s(Jollofnews) - Seyfo Ajay Janneh of Gunjur, Kombo South and a Nigerian and his European wife, the proprietors of Gunjur Motel were arrested last Friday in relation to Yahya Jammeh's recent land grabbing brouhaha in the area. The real motive behind the arrest is not yet ascertained, but our sources have indicated that the Chief was supposedly arrested for accepting bribes from the expatriate couple, who were also arrested for operating a business without a Gambian partner. Following their arrest, the motel owners were asked to pay the value of the leased property where their hotel is situated. Recently,chief-ajay-janneh-s Yahya Jammeh took a peculiar interest Gunjur and made several visits their during a period of time that coincided with the weekend marathon prayer vigil her orchestrated at the famous mosque and shrine dedicated to a 19th Century Islamic sage from neighboring Senegal. The Jammeh regime, through the Ministry of Local Government and Lands, is bent on cancelling the leasehold on the motel and dispossess the legal owners of the property. Our sources intimated us that orders for such an action, came directly from Yahya Jammeh who has already taken possession of the land in entire area surrounding the mosque, shrine and the motel. As of now, “that land belongs to Yahya Jammeh” said our reliable source. With Chief Ajay Janneh under arrest, speculations are rife that Jammeh has offered the position of Kombo South Chief to the Gunjur Darboe Kunda clan, the hereditary rulers of Kombo South dating back to the colonial era.
In a related development, pilgrims invited by a renowned cleric, Imam Baba Leigh, who is not particularly liked by Yahya Jammeh for his strict interpretation of Islam and his unabashed independence, were denied access to the Gunjur Mosque and Shrine on the orders of Yahya Jammeh. The reason for such an unprecedented interference in religious worship were not given, but Gambians have come recognize that Yahya Jammeh is above the law and does not need to provide reasons for his actions and activities. Meanwhile two more school children were killed recently as they welcomed the Mauritanian President; one hit by car in the scramble, and the other killed in the stampede for the biscuits Yahya Jammeh tossed to the crowd. And as this tragedy of Yahya Jammeh continues to unfold, roadblocks and checkpoints are once again sprouting around the country, even as endemic and sporadic power outages plunge the Greater Banjul area in total darkness. And as we go to press, the entire Board of Directors of PRO-PAG a non-governmental organization are being forced to resign their posts on orders from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs. The Board includes prominent personalities such as Board Chairwoman Mrs. Adlaide Sosseh, who has since tendered her resignation and John Njie, whose order to leave, is being challenged as unconstitutional. However, the regime has threatened to de-register PRO-PAG as a non-governmental organization, a disturbing development that marks the beginning of the regime’s interference in the affairs of non-governmental organization in the country. We will wait to see on whose side The Association of Non-Governmental Organizations is, PRO-PAG or the meddling regime.

...cont from below...

Apart from the land grab, yaya looks for ways to frame & sacrifice Sheriff Ajay Janneh for political gains, to compensate the Guniur Darboe-clan & Afansu Matida Darboe in particular, the southern UDP Constituency chairman, for cross-carpet; all behold, there’s more to come yet; UNLESS we act to save a Gambia on its dying/death-bed.

Slowly, ALL, including the very people in his servitude, will come to terms with THEMSELVES, @ least, to accept the realities of a devouring bully & murderer, who only hide behind diplomatic-impunity, take advantage of being in temporal command of guns supposed to defend the very people.

Brother Bax:
Do you want us to believe that there is a Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) in the Gambia in these days?
Maybe you miss its true meaning:
That Council is reduced into a dump to an extend that, it is now Call: Selfish Idle Council period, If not their selfishness, how on earth can day be dancing to one man tune for all these years ? This is the council I gave respect at the begining of its formation but they've now reduced themselves that is why, even Arafang Yahya is looking at them as useless people because he is now their leader interms of Islamic affairs as he (Jilanka) is the Sheickh, Naasirul Deen and much more the Alhaaj.
As we know in Islam, the Sheickh is the over ruler in the muslims' affairs so let us not blame him. Let the blame goes to Selfish Idle Council (SIC).

In Gambia today it is one arrest after another!! When is this madness going to end? When are we going to stop wasting the little tax money we have on endless and frivolous court proceedings?

Wow! Muslims denied access to a place of worship in a muslim country by a supposedly muslim leader! You can only hide your true colours for so long...

Putting the arguements for RELIGIOUS FREEDOM apart, what true and God fearing muslim would deny other muslims/non muslims (for that matter) access to their places of worship?

Such an action(I believe) contradicts Islamic Teachings and I would like to see the stance of the Supreme Islamic Council.

It is only after fencing the whole of Gambia and putting: THE PROPERTY OF KAILAI FARMS at the entrance, that is perhaps the only time Gambians might wake up to the greedy nature of this present day Sani Abacha we have in our country.

Our governors are competing as to who can allocate him the biggest rice field or farm in their respective regions, not to mention free labor. Why do you think he is relentless in supplying those areas with tractors and such? They benefit him directly before the people even get a chance to use them.
