GPU Elects New Executive

(JollofNews) - Bai Emil Touray of opposition newspaper Foroyaa is the new President of the Gambia Press Union (GPU). This came about following elections on Sunday at the Gambia Telecommunications Training Institute, located in Kanifing.
Mr Touray takes over from exiled press union leader Ndey Tapha Sosseh, who was at the helm of GPU for three turbulent years. Through skype connection
the outgoing President delivered her statement considered by delegates as resounding.Baboucarr Ceesay of DailyNews was elected First Vice-president and Amie Sanneh of Foroyaa second Vice Presidency.
The exuberant Gibairu Janneh of the pro-government newspaper Daily Observer won the Secretary General’s post unopposed. Lamin Njie of the Daily News and freelance journalist Hadija Jawara have been voted unopposed for the posts of Assistant-Secretary General and Treasurer respectively.
The Executive also include co-opted members Sarjo Camara of Foroyaa and Saikou Cessay of the Daily News.
Term off office for the newly elected executive will extend for next three years.The congress also saw the adoption of a new GPU constitution. Congress delegates also rejected the adoption of a financial report, described by many as ''an insult to intelligence of Gambian journalists”
Results of the GPU 2011 Elections are as follows:

Bai Emil Touray of Foroyaa - 37 votes
Nfamara Jawneh of The Point - 19 votes
Ndey Tapha Sosseh - 14 votes
First Vice-president:
Baboucarr Ceesay of DailyNews - 45 votes
Hatab Fadera of the DailyObserver - 19 votes
Second Vice-president:
Amie Sanneh of Foroyaa - 41votes
Sanna Camara of The Standard - 23 votes
Secretary General:
Gibairu Janneh of The DailyObserver - unopposed
Asssistant Secretary General:
Lamin Njie of Daily Njie - unopposed
Treasurer:
Haddija Jawara - unopposed
Female Co-opted Member:
Sarjo Camara of Foroyaa - 29 votes

I have read the stuff over on Gambia L - good, admirable. I must say that you win me over to your WARRIOR's good work on behalf of GPU and I am impressed with my "enemy's" stature and achievement.
I also note that "Serre-Hule" means RELIABLE person - and you are remaining a RELIABLE friend to Ndey Tapha Sosseh. Very UNgambian - as Gambians normally abandon you as soon as you have a problem.
May I end by saying that we should join the Royal Houses of Ethiopia and Gambisara in a few years time - if your Princely Household will spare a young Serre-hule Soninke Princess for His Highness Hail Haile Halake.

My brother are you suprise if Pa Nderry is now changing from who he was to who he want to be? Let me just remind you that he now got US citizenship. I say it to friends here in the US that Pa Nderry's last enemy is Jammeh. His number one enemies are people he lied against putting a lot in trouble. Pa Nderry is a laughing stock of Gambian journarlism. If you have been following his reporting since the day he announce to us he got US citizenship then you will be able to understand what am trying to put across. How many people did Pa Nderry lock horns with eg Mathew K. Jallow and others. Just as you conclude may God help what am reading online. It real give a bad signal to the world of who Gambians are. This is why we make serious complains and no one listens because most is fabricated and taint for enemies.

Just put yourself in that shoe to be taking decisions for Gambians, you may not be liken by many. When I make my comments am judged stupid and ignorant. But when I wait patiently for days, I will read a controversial issue online or people of the same goal biting each other mostly in Freedom news paper online. It was yesterday I was reading the presentation of the lands commission report to Jammeh. Some of the information in the report state that you have already compounds well constructed with no owners. Guess who the owners are? They not order than high ranking officers of Jammeh administration. He sacks them we will say he use them and dump them. The way I see the attitude of Gambians, Jammeh is the right person. NO friend no relative for him.
I give you a green mark for again displaying your better side.
If Gambians will "cut off" each others' throats just for the affairs of a simple union, how easy would it be to govern a whole nation of such a people?
