GPU 1st Assistant Secretary General Madi Njie Arrested

(Jollofnews) - JollofNews has learnt that the newly elected 1st Assistant Secretary General of the Gambia Press Union, Madi
Njie, has been arrested by Gambia’s plain clothes security officers.Mr Njie who was picked up Friday at the Standard Newspaper offices in Bakau was told by the secret security officers he was needed at their office
for questioning. This came few days after Executive Director of The Gambia Press Union (GPU), Ahmed Alota, was also arrested and detained overnight at the headquarters of the Police Intervention Unit in Serrenkunda. Mr. Alota, a Nigerian citizen, and a former editor of The Point newspaper, was picked up at the GPU’s office in Bakau and no charges have so far been laid against him.
Bai Emil Touray, GPU President elect, and Amie Sanneh-Bojang, 2nd vice-president were both present when Mr Njie was whisked away.
