GNOC Trio Acquitted

Beatrice_Allen(JollofNews) - A Gambian Magistrate Court has on Monday discharged and acquitted Ms Beatrice Allen, 1st Vice-President of the Gambia national Olympic Committee (GNOC) and executive member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC); Ousman Wadda and Muhammed Janneh, respectively Treasurer and Accountant of the GNOC in theft charges leveled against them.Beatrice_Allen
The trio have been standing trial for allegedly stealing 34, 000 dalasis (about 1000 euros) which were allowances to be paid to the jailed former Chief of Defense Staff Lang Tombong Tamba.
In handing down his verdict, Magistrate Taballi of the Kanifing magistrate's court made it clear that the ''prosecution was not able to prove its case'' during the trial that has captured the nation's imagination over these past months. ''The testimonies of the 4 prosecution witnesses could not in any way support the charges,'' he said.
Ida Drammeh, one of the country's top criminal lawyers, told JollofNews that justice has been done. She then added: ''I am happy for my clients. They were acquitted of the theft charges leveled against them.''
Asked whether she is going to move court to seek compensation under the instructions of her clients, she said the most important thing was to emerge victorious in such a case.
For Muhammed Janneh, the outcome of the trial is not a surprise for him as the case was ''politically motivated''.
''This is something I was expecting,'' he told JollofNews in a rather overwhelming tone. He thanked their lawyers for efficiently handling their case....
