GNOC Theft Case Set for Ruling

beatrice_allen_n_ousman_wadda-s(Jollofnews) - The high-profile theft case involving executive members of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is nearing completion, with the court setting aside June 13, 2011, as the ruling date.
The former acting President of the committee, Ms Beatrice Allen was arrested and remanded alongside her Treasurer and Accountant respectively, Alhajibeatrice_allen_n_ousman_wadda-s Ousman Wadda and Muhammed Janneh in January this year. The officials were later arraigned before Magistrate Sheriff Tabally of Kanifing courts, charged with stealing D34, 000.
Court records showed that the trio “falsely claimed allowances” due to Lang Tombong Tamba, former GNOC President and Chief of Defence Staff, contrary to Section 258 of Criminal Code.
The prosecution nailed its case after inviting witnesses, who according to the defence counsel, were vital to her clients. Lawyer Ida Drammeh, who had earlier filed a no-case-to-answer submission, was more than convinced that the testimonies of prosecution witnesses “without doubt prove the innocence of the accused persons.” She said the prosecution had failed to prove with tangible evidence that the accused persons had indeed stolen the said amount, which clearly supported the innocence of “my clients.”
