Ghana FM describes citizens’ murder as ‘unfortunate’
Saturday, 11 December 2010 16:32
Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Alhaji Muhammed Mumuni, described the murder of its citizens in Gambia as “unfortunate”, at a State burial said to be the final funeral rites for six Ghanaians.
The incident which occurred five years ago involved 44 foreigners who were believed to be illegal immigrant using Gambia as a transit point.

The Ghanaian government-organised funeral rite, which coincided with World Human Rights Day, and is expected to end issues relating to the July 23, 2005 incident, was attended by Members of the Council of State, Ministers of State, Parliamentarians, relatives and the public.
Six out of the eight corpses identified by their families were Prince Nuamah Mensah, Isaac Kwadwo Ampadu, Richmond Addai, Kwaku Agyeman, Eric Kwesi Nketia and Kwamena Kisi, reported the Accra based Peace FM Online.
After the burial service, the remains of the victims were interred at the Osu Cemetary.
Foreign Minister Muhammed Mumuni said a Gambian delegation could not attend the function because of flight schedule, but he noted that the Gambian Government had done much to express regret for the unfortunate development which took place on its soil.
The minister then commended the United Nations, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative and other bodies which were instrumental in urging the Government to demand justice from the Gambian Government.
