G/Bissau accepts deployment of regional force
Thursday, 30 September 2010 00:34

Under the arrangement, the EU could consider reviving moves to reform the security sector, suspended since May at the initiative of Brussels, Barroso said.
The regional stabilization force will be made up of contingents from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), according to Gomes Junior.
CPLP comprises the African Portuguese-speaking countries, Brazil and Portugal.
The European Union is ready to boost cooperation with Guinea Bissau for the promotion of democracy, Barroso said, adding that the EU would support authorities democratically elected in that African country.
Gomes Junior stated that the current wave of drug trafficking could not not be tackled until the security sector was reformed.
Under the reform programme, sweeping changes will have to be effected in the justice, police and military sectors.
