Wednesday, 15 September 2010 14:19
Njie-Saidy has also appealed for the repair of damaged infrastructure, among others.

The VP appeal followed the heavy rains which caused severe flooding and destruction in the past few days, which according to statistics have affected 21,194 people across the country.
The vice president stated that climate change and variability had continued to pose formidable challenges to the country's development efforts and the quest to improve the lives of the people.
According to her, "As a government therefore, we cannot continue to allow Gambians to suffer without taking appropriate steps to cushion the effect of the flooding."
Njie-Saidy, who also doubles as the chairperson of the Disaster Governing Council, warned that predictions from the Meteorological Department indicated that the rains might continue up to mid-October.
She commended some institutions which had played key roles in the delivery and coordination of assistance to victims.
