Gambia's maiden youth finals recapped

GFAGamsports- The Gambia took bronze in her debutant appearance in the African youth finals in Congo Brazzaville in 2007, and in so doing, bagged one of Africa's four tickets to the world Cup in Canada later the same year. The Young Scorpions opened their campaign by beating Burkina Faso, losing narrowly to host, Congo, before beating Ivory Coast in the last group match to progress at the top of Group A.GFA
Though The Gambia lost narrowly to Nigeria in the semi finals it went ahead to win the 3rd place match against Zambia soundly to finish with bronze. As the nation keenly awaits the draw for the 2011 tournament fans are already fast forwarding the clock and yearning for the team to go one step more when the tourney, traditionally held in January, starts in Libya."Again we must have the twin ambition of the African Cup or at least a ticket to the World Cup. That is my message,' a delighted fan told Gamsports.com in Serekunda Monday morning.
