Gambian lawyers embark on strike action

Empty_courtroomPANA - Lawyers under the banner of Gambia Bar Association (GBA), an umbrella body for legal practitioners in the tiny West African nation, have embarked on strike action by boycotting the courts to back calls for charges against their embattled colleague, Moses Richards, to be dropped, PANA confirmed onEmpty_courtroom Wednesday.
Richards, a former High Court Judge who is now in private practice, was recently remanded at Gambia’s Central Prison of Mile 2 as he faced two counts of giving false information and sedition about President Yahya Jammeh.
Reacting to the development, GBA first issued a statement, condemning “the unwarranted arrest and prosecution” of Mr. Richards.
This has been followed by the strike action which will last till on 14 January.
'All we want is to be respected, to be able to do our jobs without fear so that the public can have confidence in us,” Sheriff Marie Tambedou, GBA President was quoted saying in Banjul, Gambian capital.

Instead of this timid 3-day strike why can't these lawyers refuse to attend proceedings in all court rooms all over the land until all these mercenary leeches from Nigeria that are sucking the very life-blood of our nation are are sent packing!!

Only in Gambia would people sit and watch foreign judges sending all our good citizens to prison at the behest of one man! The era of timidity should be cast aside and really drastic actions taken! That is the only language dictators understand. How many children are left fatherless thanks to the actions of these GREEDY NIGERIAN MAGISTRATES?

And people like Edu Gomez dares to have the iron balls to tell people not to talk against this regime?
