Gambian government tasks Drug Agency to be vigilant

Ben_JammehPANA - The Vice President of the Gambia and Minister of Women’s Affairs, Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy, has urged officials of the country's National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) to stay focused on the job of hunting and bringing drug dealers to book. Dr. Njie-Saidy, at the official inauguration of the new NDEA Head Office here, also stressed that official should not to allow themselves to be used by the drug dealers for selfish purposes.
According to her, having a head office should be translated into hard work, results and commitment.Ben_Jammeh
“Remember that the drug dealer’s best bet is to offer bribe in order to regain freedom and to continue to enjoy the full liberty from the protection that the bribes are meant to prompt,' the Banjul-based Voice newspaper quoted the VP as saying here.
“Embarking on such journeys and missions is without doubt difficult and assiduous, but it is my firm conviction that with the collective involvement of all Gambians, we will succeed to turn the tides in achieving a drugs-free Gambia,” Dr. Njie-Saidy, who is also the Head of the Security Council, said.
While stating that drug is mankind’s enemy, she implore all Gambians and all genuine residents in the Gambia to be on the highest alert to report all cases of drug trade in the country.
She admitted that for the past few years, 'our part of the continent has become a hub for the large-scale production, trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs.'
This, she said, was a worrisome development indeed, one that requires the concerted collaboration of all at individual, community, national, regional and continental levels to curb.
On his part, the Director of NDEA, Benedict Jammeh, noted that the Kanifing Municipal Council and its community had been helpful to his office.
To the schools, training institutions and the universities, he said 'I would like to challenge you to continue the excellent sensitization work you’ve being doing on the menace posed by drugs, corruption and organised crime.'
According to him, the NDEA is open to proposals of any nature aimed at using education as a weapon in combating drug abuse and trafficking among youths.

Well spotted Mo.

Gambian's from the UK now make up a significant percentage of visitors to Gambia. The Numbers{all nationalites} in total have declined from 1999 at around 80,000...which in turn contributed to approx 26% of GDP.

The recent statement in the NA...indicated that tourism reciepts had fallen from 17% of GDP to now only 12% of GDP...

The recent attacks by the President on Gay's[ Now admitted in Wikileaks}...

and the disgraceful accusations against the British by Mr Gomez...has left many Brits uncertain about there welcome.

If this incurrsion on Gambian visitors is not in dispute, then I would suggest Gambian's wishing to visit or return permanently to The Gambia..will think twice..hence reducing numbers further and
this will impact on the forex?GDP needs of Gambia significantly.

A responsible government would make a clear statement clarifying all matters.

Yea, now it is all about the NDEA, since the NIA's animal behavior has been well exposed all over the airwaves.
This means that now every alleged crime will have drug-dealing connotations to it, since the NDEA is the new favorite toy in Jammeh's hands. What a bunch of confused idiots! Where is Gambia headed under these Cassamance transplants?
