Gambian Bar condemns arrest, prosecution of former judge

Moses_RichardThe Gambia Bar Association (GBA), an umbrella body for legal practitioners in the tiny West African nation, has condemned “the unwarranted arrest and prosecution” of former High Court Judge, Moses Richards, PANA reported from here Thursday.Moses_Richard
Richards who is now in private practice, was remanded at Gambia’s Central Prison of Mile 2 as he faced two-count-charges of giving false information and sedition about President Yahya Jammeh.
The GBA issued a statement condemning “the unreasonable and unjustified denial of bail” to Richards, and his detention 'without any court order'.”
The arrest and detention came after Richards sent a letter to Gambia’s Sheriff office in his capacity as a private lawyer, acting “on the expressed instructions and information of his clients”.
“The GBA is deeply concerned that a legal practitioner, acting upon and conveying the instructions of his client, could be subjected to arrest and charge,” the body stated.
Legal practitioners in The Gambia, as is the case worldwide, are privileged and protected when acting in their professional capacity on behalf of their clients, for the obvious reason that it is in the public interest that Legal Practitioners are able to represent their clients properly, and discharge their duties without fear of being arrested and prosecuted.

Absolutely no bail should be allowed for this fake judge. My reason is the the judiciary system in the Gambia, has falsely placed a lot of people in jail, by siding with the government, without following their conscience and the constitution. They have never make their ruling by the constitution, never stand against the government against injustice, and now their own member is in trouble. Now let him taste a piece of his actions, maybe this would be a wake-up call for the rest of them. These action of the government will shed light to the torment that ordinary people are facing in the Gambia.
