Gambia thumps Sierra Leone 4-1
Saturday, 24 July 2010 21:45
The Gambia made a triumphant return to youth football Saturday, as the U-20 team, unilaterally named by Gamsports.com as the Young
Scorpions came from behind to beat Sierra Leone 4-1.After been handed a bye, catapulting them to the second round of the African youth qualifiers, the Young Scorpions, received Sierra Leoneans’ shooting stars, clueless ,well at least coachless, and were soon made to pay for sloppy play. The visitors are keen on stealing a comfortable cushion in Banjul to allow a sound sleep as they wait for the return leg.

They played greatly to contain the Young Scorpions who were buoyed by the inclusion of San Jose star and the much hyped Omar Jasseh, and a few more foreign players but it was the locally based players who made the initial scare to Sierra Leone. The visitors shocked the crowd when Sulayman Camara punished a defensive defect to put his side on the lead and almost doubled the score minutes later before Gambia realised the task ahead must be confronted headlong without any further delay.
The technical team led by former Saraba ace Lamin Sarr felt the emerging problems might must be tackled and controversially withdrew crowd favourite Ebrima Camara late in the first half to introduce Lamin Sajo Samateh, defensive player. Moments later the Young Scorpions equalised through Mahmoud Seine with the last action of the first half.
Both teams resumed on low rhythm, but Omar Jasseh soon regained his well known dazzling skills, and as the crowd yell, Lamin Sajo Jatta delivered a splendid fee kick for new entrant Buba Jallow to head into the net. As if intentional, and for the first time the stadium was deaf slapped with a blast of well that globetrotting South African product, Vuvuzela.
That blast might as well announced the fate of Sierra Leonean because the Gambia provisional technical team smell victory, they competed to sent instructions, perhaps sometimes confusing and obviously exhausting all substitutions. The result was another moment of brilliance for the Young Scorpions as Alasan Camara executed a killer finishing to Mustapha Jatta cross in late in the second half. And with the last gasp action the Young Scorpions made it 4-1.
